Openings: Herakut – “Loving the Exiled” @ 941 Geary

Saturday evening, 941 Geary hosted German duo Herakut’s latest exhibition – Loving the Exiled (previewed). The show consists of a series of large scale works on canvas that depict figures that have fallen from grace. Openings: Dennis McNett x Swoon x Monica Canilao @ Galleria Patricia Armocida

Earlier this month Dennis McNett (featured), Swoon (interviewed) and Monica Canilao opened a brand new exhibition entitled The Folding of a Known World at Galleria Patricia Armocida. The trio of US-based artists traveled to Milan to work together on creating fresh collaborative installations filled with their signature styles and techniques. McNett sent us some photos documenting their progress as they slaved away in Italy as well as some final shots of the fruits of their labor. Check it all out after the jump.

Openings: Isaac Cordal @ RAS Gallery

Last Friday, RAS Gallery in Barcelona hosted the opening of Isaac Cordal’s latest collection of works which were presented by SUBEN and curated by Maximiliano Ruiz. Cordal’s outdoor sculptural interventions, which often times are political in nature, made the transition to the gallery setting with pieces arrayed on a series of shelves and with floor installations. Openings: Gary Baseman – “Vicious” @ Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea

Los Angeles-based artist Gary Baseman (featured) recently traveled to Milan for the opening of his solo show at the Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea. Featuring thirty new works (drawing and paintings), the new body of work entitled Vicious was enjoyed by his many Italian fans who attended the artist reception where Baseman happily greeted and sketched for some of his admirers. Openings: Kenny Scharf – “Hodgepodge” @ Honor Fraser

Last weekend, the distinctive stylings of Kenny Scharf (interviewed) were put on display at Honor Fraser in Los Angeles. Hodgepodge, his second showing at the gallery, features paintings, sculptures, a Cosmic Cavern installation, and a customized Cadillac, as well as an opening night performance by longtime friend and frequent collaborator, Ann Magnuson. Openings: EVOL – “Repeat Offender” @ Jonathan LeVine

Last week, German artist EVOL launched a show entitled Repeat Offender at Jonathan LeVine Gallery. The Berlin based artist’s intricate stencils are often layered on found mediums such as cardboard and metal to create mesmerizing cityscapes and unique urban compositions. In addition to these, we also caught a rare series of photographs depicting his 2009 project at the Caspar David Friedrich Stadt, an installation in a former slaughterhouse in Dresden, Germany. Openings: Tessar Lo – “Past, Present, Past-Present” @ Cooper Cole

A couple weeks ago, the Cooper Cole Gallery held court for attendees of Tessar Lo’s newest solo show titled Past, Present, Past-Present. The new body of work included medium to large-scale pieces featuring dream-like abstract imagery centered on his boy & animal characters and painted with rich and lush colors. Openings: George Condo @ PRISM

Last weekend, the PRISM Gallery on Sunset was the stage for a showing from influential American artist George Condo. Featuring a survey of his work including largescale paintings, sculptures, and drawings, the pieces were selected with a special emphasis on the portrait-style work of the last decade in mind. What up INTERNET!? Last week your boy… Hennessy Youngman presented a fresh show at Maurizio Cattelan’s Family Business Gallery. Initially invited by Marilyn Minter for an exhibition, Youngman decided to open up this opportunity to all the local artists to submit their artwork.
