Previews: Mike Davis – “Ghosts From The Future” @ Copro Gallery

Opening on May 7th, Ghosts From The Future will be Mike Davis’ second showing at Copro Gallery in Los Angeles. Painting in the style of the Netherlandish Flemish Primitives such as Bosch, Bruegel and van Eyck, the San Francisco-based artist brings a modern twist to the surreal imagery with unexpected elements and symbology. Now showing until the end of the month at Roq La Rue, Danny van Ryswyk’s Tender Loving Darkness is a showcase in cutting edge technology and the painting techniques of yore. Ryswyk uses a 3D computer program to render his creations digitally. The digital render is then 3D printed into something than can be physically painted. Continuing his long term collaboration with KP Projects // MKG, Greg “Craola” Simkins (featured) will be opening his latest exhibition at the West Hollywood gallery on May 21st. The upstairs area where Launch LA is located will also share the solo show and have the Los Angeles-based artist’s works on display. Releases: Scott Scheidly – “Mao Zedong” Print

Just this morning, Hashimoto Contemporary released another print from Scott Scheidly from his pink series of paintings where he pokes fun at dictators & masculine characters from pop culture. Mao Zedong is produced in an edition of 30, costs $200, and comes with an ornate pink frame. Previews: Kazuki Takamatsu – “Decoration Armament” @ Corey Helford Gallery

On April 23rd, Corey Helford Gallery will be hosting a new solo from Kazuki Takamatsu entitled Decoration Armament. This will be the Japanese artist’s third showing with the gallery in Los Angeles and will feature his depth map pieces created through his unique process that starts digitally and ends hand painted. Always dealing with ideas of death, spirituality, and the younger generation, his surreal images are beautiful to behold with complex layers that seem to glow. Leap opens on May 14th at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York and will feature the Los Angeles-based artist’s surreal otherworldly scenes painted with a vivid palette of blues, greens, reds, and splashes of golden light.
