So, it looks like Phlegm has been hard at work at something epic that will open to the public soon in the UK. Mausoleum of the Giants in the street artist’s home base of Sheffield will feature large-scale sculptural installations in an abandoned factory, populating the halls and rooms with creatures and elements of his distinct imagery. Combining the best from all over the world in the categories of visual art and design, the fair featured 53 exhibitors and among them were household names such as Gagosian, Perrotin, Blum & Poe, and David Zwirner. It was also more than a typical fair, as it […]

Showing: Andre x Futura – “Chez Nous” @ Danysz Gallery (Paris)

André & Futura have joined forces for a unique collaborative show at Danysz Gallery in Paris with their signature pictorial characters. Aptly entitled Chez Nous, the exhibition presents a series of unseen works where they answer each other and merge their energetic painterly gestures. Futura’s otherworldly characters, such as the Pointman, echo Saraiva’s whimsical Mr A. dancing figures, as if their pictorial alter egos were enjoying themselves as much as both artists did in this adventure. The show is on view until the 9th of […]

Previews: Mr. – “Mr.’s Melancholy Walk Around the Town” @ Perrotin (Paris)

Continuing to expand on a recent body of work last seen in Hong Kong (covered), Mr. will be opening a new show tomorrow night (January 19th) at Perrotin Gallery in Paris. Entitled Mr.’s Melancholy Walk Around the Town, the new work from the Superflat movement artist features more of his anime inspired works portraying young girls in a ero-kawaii style, made personal when considering it is billed as a “wider reflection upon solitude, social anxiety, impotence and fear.” Check out more photos of the setup below… Photos courtesy of ©︎2011-2018 […]

Showing: YESNIK @ LUX Art Institute

Last weekend, north San Diego saw the opening of YESNIK’s latest solo show at the LUX Art Institute in Encinitas. On view through the end of March, the museum exhibition features paintings, sculpture, and murals where the locally-based artist reimagines the textures, colors, and shapes of the natural world into abstract totemic compositions. The work is a continuation of his recent direction where he explores “societal fragmentation through the invention of figures made of vibrant colors and flat shapes, taking on dimensionality as they teeter in […]

Showing: Riusuke Fukahori – “Goldfish Blossoms” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Showing through the end of this week at Joshua Liner in New York is Riusuke Fukahori’s Goldfish Blossoms. For his third and largest solo yet with the gallery, the Yokohama-based artist has produced a wide selection of his signature acrylic and resin paintings of goldfish. Swimming in Japanese household objects and handmade vessels, the fish appear astonishingly three dimensional with the artist’s layered resin painting technique leading to an illusion of depth and realism. Coupling this skill in tricking the eye with Fukahori’s playful choice of items to house the freshwater […]
