Nuart Festival ’13: Part II – Ernest Zacharevic, Hush, Strøk

This year’s Nuart Festival (see previous years) officially opened this weekend and we have a plethora of new street pieces to share with you. Part II sees us taking a look at the work of Ernest Zacharevic (seen above), Hush, and Strøk. If you remember, the Lithuanian Zacharevic was featured in our Art Focus article last year. San Diego gets itself a new gallery this weekend with the opening of Low Gallery in the North Park area. The premiere exhibition launching the space is a two-person show with local boy Mike Maxwell and Asheville, NC artist Alli Good. Well & Good opens on Saturday, the 7th of September. Previews: St. Monci – ‘Adventures in Technicolor’ @ 1975 Gallery

St. Monci is an artist that has been catching our eye lately. From his delicately composed gallery work to his large scale murals, his clean line-work and use of colour presents a strong abstract aesthetic. This weekend, he opens his solo exhibition at Rochester, NY’s 1975 Gallery. Adventures in Technicolor opens on Saturday, 7th September, and from the looks of these installation shots taken by photographer Hannah Betts it would be well worth checking out in person if you are in the area.

After another three city series of shows in Australia earlier this year, the husband and wife artistic duo known as Kozyndan have a new show opening tomorrow (September 7th) in Los Angeles. Previews: Saber – “Ugly American” @ The Outsiders (Newcastle)

Tomorrow (September 6th) in the UK, SABER (interviewed) will be unveiling all new works at The Outsiders in Newcastle. Entitled Ugly American, the graffiti artist’s European solo debut looks to feature two distinct set of works. One series consists of wood depictions (featured here) of the US Flag and the Union Jack, scarred and covered with his mark-making. The other pieces in the show are his abstract tags and urban calligraphy, sometimes peeking through from the back. Take a look at more preview images below… Discuss Saber here.

Previews: Ludo – “Destructionis Hostis Vespa” @ White Walls

Ludo (interviewed) is opening a solo show at White Walls in San Francisco on September 14. The title of the show is Destructionis Hostis Vespa, which is a name of the creature around which the entire show is centered. He also created a sculpture of this mechasect cross between a combat airplane and a wasp, which will be displayed in the middle of the room. On October 4th, the Evoke Contemporary in New Mexico will be presenting a new solo exhibition from Kent Williams. Making his return to the showspace (see 2010), the Los Angeles-based painter has put forth work collectively entitled OPHTHALM: new drawings + paintings. The title of of the show brings to mind a similarly named book he recently released that is still available as well. After a comprehensive series of shows in collaboration with the New York City Ballet earlier this year, the Brooklyn collective known as Faile haven’t had any time to rest. The two Patricks have been hard at work getting ready for their big upcoming museum show at the Dallas Contemporary scheduled to open September 21st.
