Openings: “Daydreaming with…” (Hong Kong Edition) @ ARTISTREE

Last month, AM stopped by the Hong Kong edition of the Daydreaming with… exhibition. Designed to marry music and visual art, this experience gathered some high profile names in the genres of music, art, film, photography, fashion and design. Openings: Patrick Martinez – “Lovely Day” @ Known Gallery

Last weekend, Patrick Martinez opened his solo show Lovely Day at the Known Gallery in the heart of LA. Continuing to display a creative versatility, the locally-based artist put a selection of pieces on the walls ranging from sculptural neon works, mixed media works, paintings, as well as a set of vending machines with custom made items.  All in all, the showing came together thematically in revealing both the beautiful and the ugly things that are seen by people living in Los Angeles. Upcoming: Martin Wittfooth @ Corey Helford

Coming up in September, the Corey Helford Gallery plans to lead off the fall season with an exhibition from Martin Wittfooth (interviewed). After witness a brilliant showing last October from the Brooklyn-based painter in New York where he unveiled increasingly powerful imagery in his work, we are looking forward to seeing what he has in store for LA. ADAA ’12: Yoshitomo Nara – “Works on Paper” @ Pace Gallery

Several months ago at the ADAA Art Show, we caught some new work from Yoshitomo Nara as he made his solo fair debut with Pace Gallery. The entire booth was filed with a variety of Nara’s signature works on paper. Another booth we spent time at during Art HK was the one stocked by Takashi Murakami’s Kaikai Kiki gallery. Their booth held a solo feature for Rei Sato and her latest body of work entitled All Monsters Hold Secrets in Their Grasp. Preview: Annie Owens – “Motherland” @ Copro Gallery

This Saturday night, the Copro Gallery will be hosting a new solo exhibition from Annie Owens, artist and co-founder of Hi-Fructose. Motherland includes watercolor works on paper as well as studies referencing Owen’s recent interest in her family tree with paintings of mysterious houses and characters. The exhibition runs through July 7th at the Bergamot Complex in Santa Monica.

Teaser: “Sur-Realism” @ Arcadia Gallery

In what looks to a be a impressive lineup, Arcadia Fine Arts in New York will be hosting a new group exhibition entitled Sur-Realism this weekend, with the opening on Saturday, June 16th. Although not 100% confirmed, artists scheduled to be submitting work include Martin Wittfooth, Billy Norrby, Brian Despain, Brad Kunkle, Eric White, Aron Wiesenfeld and more. Releases / Signings: Luke Chueh – “Bearing the Unbearable” @ G1988 – Melrose

As mentioned here earlier, Luke Chueh (interviewed) is having a series of autograph and sketching sessions celebrating the release of his new book – Bearing the Unbearable. Last weekend, we dropped by Gallery 1988 (Melrose) for the first and largest of these signings which also included a series of sketches on display from the LA-based artist. Showing: Andrew Schoultz & Richard Colman – “Destroyer” @ Cooper Cole

Renewing the the synergy found in Copenhagen during their joint show, Andrew Schoultz and Richard Colman headed up north to work together on another exhibtion – Destroyer. Held at Cooper Cole Gallery in Toronto, the two friends brought along some of their signature imagery in the form of paintings as well as some sweet indoor murals.
