Openings: Thinkspace Curated “Synergy” @ Spoke Art

Saturday evening marked the opening of a joint effort between LA-based gallery, Thinkspace and San Francisco’s Spoke Art Gallery (previewed). Preview: Word to Mother – “Can’t Afford to be Broke” @ White Walls

Preview: Heiko Müller – “Hunting Night and Day” @ Jack Fischer Gallery

On May 16th in San Francisco, the Jack Fischer Gallery will be hosting the opening reception for German painter Heiko Müller where he will be presenting a new collection of work. Hunting Night and Day will be his second exhibition at the gallery and encompasses a selection of new paintings that feature Müller’s continued exploration of the darker side of nature and the hidden machinations of the animal kingdom, all rendered with a surreal touch. Openings: Tomokazu Matsuyama – “The Future is Always Bright” @ Frey Norris

Along with his current museum exhibition running at the Katzen Arts Center of the American University Museum in Washington DC (covered), Frey Norris unveiled the latest works from Tomokazu Matsuyama in a show entitled, The Future is Always Bright (previewed). The show consisted of sculptures and a mixture of small and large paintings done on amorphous and round-shaped canvases. Streets: All City Canvas (Mexico) Part II

After a first look at the All City Canvas in Mexico City, we have returned for some second helpings. Most of the artists have completed their pieces like El Mac, Saner, ROA, Vhils, Interesni Kazki, Escif and Herakut. From the photos, we can also see that Aryz has started work on his piece. Preview: Adam Wallacavage – “Shiny Monsters” @ Philadelphia Art Alliance

On May 17th, the Philadelphia Art Alliance will host the opening reception for Adam Wallacavage’s (interviewed) Shiny Monsters. By hanging several new chandeliers within each gallery of the craft and design showspace, the eclectic sculptor will be introducing his hometown to his gothic-surreal lighting ornamentation. AM recently attended the opening of Go East at Joshua Liner Gallery. This unique collaborative effort between the JL and the West Coast-based Mark Moore Gallery brought a synergy we were expecting with a fresh showcase of talented artists such as Chad Person, Feodor Voronov, Kenichi Yokono and Yoram Wolberger. With this exhibition, NYC attendees were able to sample the artistic tastes that have established Mark Moore as a key gallery in the Los Angeles art scene. Teaser: Tauba Auerbach – “Float” @ Paula Cooper

Tonight in New York, the Paula Cooper Gallery will be hosting Tauba Auerbach’s first one-person exhibition at the gallery entitled Float. The NY-based artist will be unveiling new Fold paintings alongside a new series of Weave paintings, presented for the first time in the United States. Also on display will be new photographs and sculptural objects, including Onyx, a deconstructed material volume printed and bound in book form. Preview: Dabs Myla – “Break Night Lovers” @ Known Gallery

Tomorrow night (May 5th), Known Gallery will be the place to be if you are interested in seeing the newest solo show from Dabs Myla. Break Night Lovers will feature the duo from down under’s cartoonish stylings executed in the form of new paintings, drawings, and installations.
