On Saturday night, the LA art crowd packed the Merry Karnowsky Gallery to see the work of three artists – Femke Hiemstra, Deedee Cheriel, and of course Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed). On display were paintings and cutout drawings all displaying Ms. Kawasaki’s exquisite eye for detail, mastery of her medium (especially in integrating wood grain), and her sensuous touch. If you happen to be in Orange County for the US Open of Surfing which started yesterday, make sure you make it over to the Pac Sun booth as they will have some custom surfboards on display as well as live painting sessions all week. Preview: “Genesis to Revelation” @ Copro Gallery

Tonight, besides Ewelina and Genevive Zacconi’s joint show (previewed), the Copro Gallery will also be hosting a group exhibition entitled Genesis to Revelation. Artists were asked to re-interpret the religious symbology and icons from thousands of years ago about creation and the apocalypse in their own special way. For the film poster collectors out there, Mondo will be releasing their Cowboys & Aliens series today at a random time. One of the artists tapped to design one of them for the possibly soon to be cult classic is none other than Daniel Danger (interviewed) who is currently showing in NY (covered). Last Friday night in New York, Chet Zar (interviewed) unveiled his latest series of work enititled Faces of Death at the Last Rites Gallery. The nightmarish portraits were quite striking in their custom frames and featured creatures from Chet’s imagination that we wouldn’t want to meet in a dark alley, and for that matter not in the day time either.
