Coming up soon on August 5th, Shepard Fairey (featured) will be opening his latest solo show in Copenhagen at the V1 Gallery. Using a broad array of techniques in his arsenal including mixed media works on canvas and paper, as well as screen prints, retired stencils, and Rubylith cuts, Your Ad Here examines the control of public space by politics and/or advertising campaigns. But, to turn things around, Shep is also celebrating the fact that through street art, anyone could make their agenda or “ad” seen […]

Teaser: Heisuke Kitazawa – “While You Were Away” @ Giant Robot 2

One of the rare digital artists we cover here on AM, Heisuke Kitazawa or PCP will be opening a show at the end of the month at Giant Robot 2. You may remember when we featured his murals in the LA Little Tokyo a couple years back, but for those who aren’t familiar with his work, the Tokyo-based artist is known for his dream-like psychadelic landscapes. Go see While You Were Away starting July 30th with the new body of work described as “about loneliness […]

The work on display showed a great mix of her work which included traditional paintings, detailed drawings and sketches. From wall to wall,  the Georgia-based artist showed her sensibilities to create paintings which mixed a sense of realism with an aura of fantasy. Mostly created with color pencils, graphite and acrylic paint, the art showcases her talents in a very distinct way with the subject matter focusing on […]

Aptly named Geometric Balance, the joint showing will feature Dalek’s (interviewed) space monkey abstractions and Greg Lamarche (interviewed) typographic shapes. Check out images, taken by Birdman, of […]

Streets: Vhils (Los Angeles) for Post No Bills

Yesterday, Portuguese-born artist Vhils, who’s known for creating works of art directly into surfaces, visited the Post No Bills gallery space and sketched his signature style onto an adjacent wall. Utilizing his trademark tools such as drills and hammers, he produced yet another amazing work of art that continues to place him among one of the most interesting and creative artists working in the scene right now. This new work of art goes hand in hand with the upcoming exhibit that will take place at […]

Openings: Stephen “ESPO” Powers – “Flights of Genius” @ Ogilvy & Mather

Last Thursday, AM attended the much anticipated unveiling of Flights of Genius by Steve “ESPO” Powers. Created in association with Joshua Liner Gallery and held at the corporate offices of Ogilvy & Mather (see previous project there), the marketing agency commissioned ESPO to create a series of works that lined each floor of the stairwell for the historic building with direct quotes by legendary founder David Ogilvy. We walked the entire building to catch the comedic and still relevant sayings which compliment ESPO’s witty artistic statements nicely. We […]
