Teaser: Sarah Joncas @ Last Rites Gallery

At the end of the month, Sarah Joncas (interviewed) will be opening her new show at the Last Rites Gallery in New York. We last caught up with Sarah back in September of last year at her solo in Los Angeles, and it looks like she has kept busy since working on a new collection of paintings. Openings: COPE2 – “Transition” @ TT Gallery

A true graf legend, COPE2 recently opened up a show in his home city of New York. The new body of work showing at the TT-Underground Gallery entitled “Transition” was a colorful representation of the “wildstyle” graffiti the writer help popularize starting in the late 70s in South Bronx. We have a big art night tonight in Culver City and one of the trifecta of shows is opening at the Carmichael Gallery. Seminal street art and graf photographer, Martha Cooper (interviewed), will be in town with an exhibition (Martha Cooper : Remix) she curated where artists were asked to reinterpret one of her many famous photographs. Last week, the Show & Tell Gallery in Toronto played host to two new bodies of work, MAPS and Building From The Ground Up, from Tessar Lo and Andrew Hem (interviewed) respectively. Toronto collectors packed the showspace to get a glimpse of Tessar’s eyecatching and colorful abstract paintings as well as Andrew’s whimsical sculptures among other things. Reminiscent of the Zombie Oscar Statues he installed in Runyon Canyon and in the parking lot of the famous Mel’s Drive-In in Hollywood in 2010, D*Face (featured) placed a custom tombstone early this morning at the Charlie Sheen star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Charity: Benefit Art Auction @ TT-Underground

Last Saturday, TT-Underground Gallery in New York City hosted the opening of the “Benefit Art Auction” to display works of art to be put on on eBay (here), with 100% of the proceeds going to the Japan Red Cross and GlobalGiving to aid those effected by the recent tsunami and earthquake in Japan. Master mixed media cut chemist, Kris Kuski, is set to reveal a new body of work in Seattle tonight, the first since showing at Art Basel Miami (covered) last December. Opening at Roq La Rue, Pneumatic will exhibit the Kansas-based artist’s talents through his signature remixing of found objects and model components (thousands in most cases!) into his self-dubbed “post industrial rocco” sculptural assemblages. Preview: Travis Louie – “The Creature Show” @ Roq La Rue

Tomorrow night, up in Seattle, The Creature Show will be opening up at the Roq La Rue Gallery. Some of Travis Louie’s (featured) famous vintage portraiture will be on display, and this time of his Victorian-age characters and their unusual pets (although it looks like some creatures are going solo). AM really likes the detail in this new collection of paintings with more full-body perspectives and is looking forward to seeing it on the walls. More preview images after the jump…
