Streets / Recap: North West Walls 2017

Last month, the 2017 edition of North West Walls (see 2016) wrapped up with new work from this year’s roster. Hoxxoh, Phlegm, Astro, Telmo Miel, Emmanuel Jarus, and Smates were invited in to painted stacked containers, a unique backdrop of the yearly summer rock festival in Belgium, Rock Werchter. Upcoming: Lisa Ericson @ Antler Gallery

On July 27th, Antler Gallery in Portland will present new surreal paintings from Lisa Ericson featuring her hybrid creatures of the natural world. The new body of work she has prepared for this exhibition seems to be centered upon”mobile habitats,” plants growing on the back of tortoises that can support other wild life such as butterflies, frogs, and other insects. She will be sharing the show space with artists David Rice and Danny Samuels and their new work. Discuss Lisa Ericson here.

Previews: “Small Works” @ BeinArt Gallery

On July 29th, BeinArt Gallery will be opening Small Works, a show featuring over 60 artists, the second installment in an annual group exhibition. The size of the pieces is limited to 10″ x 10″ and smaller with 5% from every purchase to the Australia’s Climate Council and will feature carbon offsetting on all shipping. Releases: Adam Neate – “Women” 2D Dimensional Handmade Multiple

Several months after the debut of handmade multiple PORTRAIT no.1 (covered), Adam Neate (interviewed) has just released a new edition in collaboration with Elm Lesters Painting Rooms. Streets: Shepard Fairey x Vhils (Lisbon)

Just this weekend, Printed Matters, a show from Shepard Fairey (featured) opened at Underdogs in Lisbon, a gallery co-founded by the locally-based Vhils (interviewed). Their collaboration didn’t end there as the American and Portuguese street artists combined their artistic vision for a joint mural featuring Shep’s iconic imagery and Vhils unique mark-making. Kickstarter: Luke Chueh – “Grief Encounters” Animated Series

Luke Chueh (interviewed) has recently started a Kickstarter with Munky King to create one minute shorts of some of his most iconic paintings. With the expertise of Tiny Giants, the Los Angeles-based artist’s world will expand as stories can be told centered around how his characters ended up in the situations they did (see an example below of his Target painting). It was only few months ago we were reporting from the inaugural Nuart Aberdeen (covered) and now it’s time for the main event in Norway.
