Basel Week Miami ’14: Snarkitecture Installation @ Shop Alchemist

There is still time for those in town for Basel Week Miami to stop by the Airball installation created by Daniel Arsham of design studio Snarkitecture and the Miami Beach based Alchemist. Open through tomorrow on level 5 of the the Herzog & de Neuron designed parking garage (1111 Lincoln Road), site of another event in 2013, the specially designed basketball arcade-style games are the main attraction along with some goodies for sale. Basel Week Miami ’13: Ai Weiwei – “According to What?” @ Pérez Art Museum Miami

One of the exhibitions we made sure to stop by while in Miami for Art Basel Week back in December was the survey of Ai Weiwei’s work at the Perez Art Museum Miami. Housed in the newly designed building by Herzog & de Meuron, the showing spans the Chinese activist – artist’s 20 year career and features a wide range of works including photography and the large-scale installations like the amazing stacked bicycles seen above. Basel Week Miami ’13 / Upcoming: colette x Alchemist “Art Drive-Thru”

If you are in town for Art Basel Week in Miami next week, you may want to stop by the pop-op shop created by French boutique store colette. Known for their previous collaborations with artists, they have teamed up with Alchemist to create a “Art Drive Thru” at  1111 Lincoln Road on the fifth floor of the Herzog & de Meuron garage (also site of the PISTON HEAD exhibition). For those on their way to this year’s Art Basel Week in Miami, you may want to check out the new Perez Art Museum Miami (formerly know as the Miami Art Museum) in a new Herzog & de Meuron designed building. Coincidentally, an artist, Ai Weiwei, that has collaborated with the Swiss architecture firm in the past will be showing at the museum. Aakash Nihalani recently sent over some photos of some tape installations he created for the exterior walls of the new Parrish Art Museum which just relocated to Watermill in a new Herzog & de Meuron building. Utilizing his outdoor medium of choice, the New York-based artist once again showed a deft touch in bridging the two and three-dimensional realms with these whimsical new pieces. Releases: Ai Weiwei – “Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2012”

For those Ai Weiwei fans out there who would love to add something from the Chinese artist to their collection, here might be an affordable opportunity. The Serpentine Gallery has released a silkscreen print (signed and numbered) from AWW which will be limited to 200, sized at 84 x 84 cm, and cost £300 (excl. VAT). The print features nine patterns, each demonstrating a different design aspect of the 12th Serpentine Galley Pavilion that was created as a collaboration between Ai and Herzog & de Meuron.
