With all the portraits created from the attendees from the opening night a year ago, Suitman pasted up and hand-finished two site specific outdoor murals to be displayed in the neighborhood of Kaka’ako thus giving a “distinguished” face to the event’s name. It appears two things motivate Bay Area residents with a vengeance; Halloween and Wes Anderson. The effects of both were on full display during Spoke Art’s Bad Dads: A Tribute to Wed Anderson (previewed) group exhibition. Curated by our friend Ken Harman, managing online editor over at Hi-Fructose, the event served as the best excuse humanly possible to break out the cowboy hats, track suites, headbands and Zissuo red beanies in honor of one of the finest writer/directors of our generation. Despite the excellent costume […]

Openings: Victor Reyes – “Misspelled” @ Robert Berman Gallery/E6

Letters – we’ve learned about them before we even enter kindergarten, practice writing them in school for years, and use them countless times everyday to communicate. They are vital to our lives, yet how many of us really take the time to examine, dissect, and improve upon their appearance? Even the most normally basic of forms want to be prettied up, admired, and told that they were beautiful and enriched your lives; show you things you’ve never considered before. Victor Reyes is acutely aware of […]
