Basel Week Miami ’15 / Streets: Phlegm

Another mural that caught our attention during Basel Week Miami was a clever new creation from Phlegm. Curated by Fresco Art and painted on the side of the Bon Vivant building, the new piece takes cues from the railroad track next to the site and features the Sheffield-based artist’s recognizable characters taking a ride on a train. Upcoming: Shag – “Jungle Drums” @ Corey Helford Gallery

After debuting their new space in Chinatown earlier this month with a show from Ron English (c0vered), Corey Helford Gallery will be following it up with an exhibition from another strong artist on their roster – Shag. Jungle Drums is a collection of brand new paintings and sculptures from the American artist that will feature his signature retro chic imagery. Upcoming: Interesni Kazki – “Sacred Gravitation” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Set to share the 529 West 20th Street location of Jonathan LeVine Gallery with Dalek starting January 9th, Interesni Kazki (interviewed) has been diligently preparing a new body of work for their fans in New York. Sacred Gravitation will be the Ukranian duo’s first exhibition with the gallery and features paintings, steeped in mysticism and influenced by their love for Dali and Moebius, that mirror the imaginative and surrealistic imagery they use on the streets. Working hard over the holidays, Andrew Schoultz brought some cheer recently to old Chinatown in Los Angeles with a new mural. Painted on the side of the Gregorio Escalante Gallery, the new piece features the all seeing eye that is commonly seen in the locally-based artist’s imagery among other signature motifs. Releases: Ernest Zacharevic – “Norwegian Bubble” Cross-Stiched Pieces

You may remember earlier this year during the NuArt Festival, Ernest Zacharevic painted a mural (seen below) in Stavenger referencing the Norwegian cross-stitch with the twist being the burning house. For this holiday season, he has teamed up with his partner-in-crime, Sheena Liam, to create a series entitled Norwegian Bubble of 12 individual frames that they are making available thru email – [email protected]. Streets: El Mac (Cambodia)

Those who have been following David Choe’s Instagram no doubt already know about his Igloo Hong Project where artists Aryz, Esao Andrews, James Jean, and El Mac along with Choe spent some time in Cambodia creating public art. The piece seen here entitled Thread of Life was painted by Mac in Phnom Penh of a local Khmer artisan named Moeun Thary, who hand-embroiders traditional Khmer ceremonial garments. Damien Hirst x Connaught Hotel Christmas Tree

For this holiday season, the Connaught Hotel in London commissioned Damien Hirst to create a Christmas tree outside for passerby’s in the posh Mayfair neighborhood to enjoy. The 30 foot Norway Spruce was decorated by the British artist with the power of science and medicine in mind, one of the themes that frequently inspires him. Garnishments include medical instruments, snowmen formed with pills, garlands of pink sausages, as well as traditional white doves.
