Upcoming: “Shared Space : KAWS, Karl Wirsun, Tomoo Gokita” @ Newcomb Art Museum of Tulane

Coming up on September 9th, the Newcomb Art Museum of Tulane will be hosting Shared Space : KAWS, Karl Wirsun, Tomoo Gokita. The artists involved are obvious from the title, but the interesting arrangement will see 17 works from KAWS on display, but also seen will be pieces from his personal collection – 26 works by Karl Wirsum including drawings, paintings, and sculptures from 1968 to 2011, as well as 9 faceless portraits and one sculpture by Tomoo Gokita. Joining artists like Ryan McGinley and Tracey Emin before them, Brazilian sensations Os Gemeos will be presenting an animation of their characters starting tomorrow from 11:57pm to midnight each night in August at New York’s Times Square. Parallel Connection is the title of this new project, which will light up the electronic billboards of one of NYC’s most iconic intersections. Streets: Ron English (New York)

Back in 2012, we covered the first mural in Manhattan from Ron English (featured) in over 25 years, featuring his signature Temper Tot figure, a play on The Incredible Hulk. Over the last couple days, the New York-based artist has added a pink brother to the original piece on an adjacent wall for the L.I.S.A Project. Located on 114 Mulberry Street in Little Italy, the matching murals are dedicated to English’s kids Zephyr and Mars, the original Temper Tots. Discuss Ron English here.

A couple nights ago, under the cover of darkness, Hot Tea and a few friends placed one of his signature installations over the pedestrian bridge that spans the PCH close to Santa Monica Blvd. and Broadway. The culmination of their hard work can be seen in the photos below, a gradient of color featuring 1,180 strands of yarn in 14 different colors that the Minneapolis-based artist dubbed Migration. AM recently got the chance to visit Regan Rosburg in her Denver studio, complete with animal skeletons, insect carcasses and all the flora and fauna she uses to make her envirocentric creations. Her work is equal parts visual art to be enjoyed by the viewer and a call to action to conserve nature. After completing a recent mural in New York (covered), photographer and street artist JR (interviewed) headed over to the City of Brotherly Love to work on a piece for the Open Source exhibition, part of the city’s MuralArtsProgram. Entitled Migrants, Ibrahim, Mingora-Philadelphia, the wall from the French artist features a portrait of Ibrahim Shah, a Philadelphia resident who immigrated to the United States from Pakistan. After enjoying a pretty amazing show from Laura Ball in the past at David B. Smith Gallery, we are pleased to hear she will be back in October for another solo show at the Denver showspace. Tran Nguyen Smithsonian Magazine Cover

Tran Nguyen, whose work we last enjoyed in person up in Seattle (covered), recently worked on a cover for Smithsonian Magazine. The current issue, which we took a snap of at our local Barnes & Noble, features the artist’s illustration for the story of the fall and rise and fall of Pompeii, referencing the fact of how the archeological treasures are falling into a state of scandalous decline. Openings: Nosego – “Along Infinite River” @ Thinkspace Gallery

A couple weekends ago, Along Infinite River opened at the Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles, a testament to the hard work and imagination of Yis Goodwin. Otherwise known as Nosego, especially for his work on the streets, the Philadelphia-base artist unveiled a collection of new vibrant paintings that put his surreal hybrids of different creatures and landscapes on display.
