You may recall that last Spring Futura was preparing to show at Galerie Jerome de Noirmont in Paris. Unfortunately, the show got moved as the artist was busy with several projects such as Carbon and Art In the Streets at the MOCA (covered). Good news is the exhibition is now set to open on January 13th. It’s nice to see street legend Futura active in New York again. The last time we saw him hit up his home city, he was creating an epic collaboration piece with Os Gemeos at a Chelsea public school (P.S. 11). On Sunday, CARBON came to a close in Melbourne, Australia. The festival consisting of some major players in the art, style, and design fields hosted a live painting session on the final night. On Thursday night, AM attended the double feature opening for Kenny Scharf at Paul Kasmin’s two galleries – the project space hosted Three Dozen (more on that soon), while in the primary space, Naturafutura was a showcase for numerous large scale paintings which drew inspiration from Kenny’s bi-coastal studio in Bahia, Brazil. Apparently, Futura hasn’t gotten his fill of collaborations after an epic piece in New York with Os Gemeos early this month. He recently partnered up with local masked artist X-Ghetto 666 (yes, that’s his name) in Mexico to customized a blacked out bus for the Chill.and.Go 2, a big cycling event. Wrapping up our coverage of a phenomenal collaboration, AM got to spend some time with Os Gemeos & Futura on their day off after the completion of this impressive mural. The seven story mural consisted of the twins working on the “britches” and Futura utilizing his “point-men” to create the crazy shirt (all in conjunction with AKANYC and 12ozProphet with support from Nike and Montana Colors). As we continue to monitor the progress of the Os Gemeos x Futura mural on 320 West 21st Street in New York, we have received a new set of pics from AM photographer, Joe Russo. As you can see, the twins are almost done with their part of the mural, namely the figurative portions and the “flag pants.” Soon, Futura will be starting in on the shirt and his portion of the mural.
