At about two in the morning last Sunday, AM met up with Hugh Leeman in the heart of San Francisco’s seedy Tenderloin district as he was preparing for his upcoming show, “Recognition” at the esteemed White Walls Gallery. This past Thursday, AM took a trip down to the San Jose Museum of Art to visit Todd Schorr (interview & studio visit) and check out “Surreal Night,” a celebration of his 25 year retrospective currently on display. While there, we were able to attend the panel discussion, meet Todd, pick up a copy of his latest book, American Surreal and take some pictures of his major retrospective exhibition. On the eve of Word to Mother’s US debut, AM swung by FIFTY24SF to interview the London-based artist. AM visited San Francisco institutions The Shooting Gallery and White Walls on Saturday to catch some photos of AJ Fosik’s (previewed) and Greg Gossel’s (interviewed) respective shows a couple hours before their dual openings. Â AJ’s show, “There’s Aliens in our Midst,” featured a dozen new wood 3D constructions (most of them being theÂ flamboyantlyÂ colored totem-like trophy heads that AJ has become known for as of late) as well as an installation of golden ratio proportions featuring a severed totem animal body strewn upon a cleft pyramid. Last Thursday, AM visited San Francisco’s 111 Minna Gallery to attend “Worship Thee Kindly The Dark Hand That Guides Me,” the first major solo show for Sacramento’s resident artist Skinner. On February 19th, Chandran Gallery in San Francisco will be presenting Witch-Wife, a two person show from Swoon (interviewed) and long time collaborator Monica Canilao. The title of the show refers to a woman who practices witchcraft as well as is a nod to the longstanding artistic relationship between the duo. Baby Tattooville â€˜09: “Son Of Baby Tattooville” Museum Reception

After a successful exhibition last year (“Beyond Baby Tattooville”), the Riverside Art Museum brings back Baby Tattooville with this year’s roster of artists, with a show called “Son of Baby Tattooville”.Â It was a unique museum group show in that almost all the artists who had works in the show made it in person to the opening.Â Museum-goers were greeted with highly-representational pieces by each artists, such as Audrey Kawasaki‘s classic Two Sisters.
