Openings: Oliver Vernon – “Renegade Trajectories” @ Joshua Liner

Joshua Liner Gallery recently welcomed the return of Oliver Vernon to New York City, with a new solo show entitled Renegade Trajectories. This fresh exhibition highlights Vernon’s cerebral and energetic visuals and pushes them to another level. Vernon utilized a variety of mediums and techniques to create this new collection of landscape abstraction, including acrylic on canvas or linen, as well as ink works on paper. Videos: Ai Weiwei – Time Magazine Cover

After coming in as the runner-up for TIME magazine’s Person of the Year in 2011, things of come full circle for Ai Weiwei. The latest issue of the magazine features an illustration from the Chinese artist – activist with the title “The World According To China” overlaid on an oversized map of China compared to the globe created from old money symbols and flowers of prosperity. KAWS – “GISWIL” @ More Gallery

With Art Basel opening next week in Switzerland, the art world is gearing up for another round of festivities after barely recovering from the Hong Kong version. One of the associated shows that we are looking forward to is KAWS’ GISWIL at More Gallery. Along a massive wooden companions with “Pinocchio noses,” paintings from the American artist will also be on display. Preview: Yumiko Kayukawa – “Madness” @ The Shooting Gallery

Tonight in San Francisco, the Shooting Gallery will be presented all new works from the Seattle-based Yumiko Kayukawa. Entitled Madness, this will be the Japanese artist’s eighth solo the gallery and will feature her acrylic and ink paintings on canvas detailing the adventures of the characters and their animal companions. The Hole gallery in New York continues it’s run of great shows. This one is a group exhibition titled Extraction and it’s focus on new approaches in abstract painting. This showcase features an expansive list of artists such as Ara Peterson, Chris Johanson, Cory Arcangel, Gerhard Richter, Kadar Brock, Mark Flood, Peter Sutherland, Sam Moyer, Wade Guyton, Xylor Jane to name a few and aims to show how this current generation of artists’ take on conveying the non-figurative. ADAA: Fred Tomaselli @ James Cohan Gallery

During this year’s ADAA Art Show one of the booths that caught our eye was James Cohan Gallery. Featuring works by Contemporary mainstay Fred Tomaselli, this booth focused on exhibiting twenty five pieces from his famous New York Times series. Utilizing the New York Times, Tomaselli collages a light and witty viewpoint with his signature vibrant colors and patterns. Check out this engaging show below.

American artist Amanda Marie spent May and June traveling around Europe, showing her work at fairs and making beautiful public street art along the way. She started her trip by visiting Germany where she introduced some new works @ Stroke Munich through Battalion Gallery, Amsterdam. Tracey Emin recently revealed a duo gallery show at New York’s Lehmann Maupin. Entitled I Followed You To The Sun, this massive show featuring 100 works of art was displayed at both it’s 26th Street and Chrystie Street gallery locations.
