Previews: Matt Small & Fran Williams – ‘The Way We Were’ @ Signal Gallery

Openings: Vhils – “Dissolve” @ Skalitzers (Sydney)

Skalitzers Contemporary Art recently presented all new works from Vhils entitled Dissolve at a location in Sydney. For Mr. Farto’s first exhibition in Australia, the versatile street artist has produced works utilizing a a range of materials as you will see in the photos below. Rounding out the exhibition was an mural outside (seen above) featuring Jack Mundey, a distinguished Australian union and environmental activist from the area. Previews: Marion Peck – “Animals” @ Michael Kohn Projects

On March 30th, Michael Kohn Gallery will inaugurate their new project space (dubbed Michael Kohn Projects) at 7270 Beverly Blvd with a solo showing from Marion Peck. The LA-based pop surrealist painter, wife of Mark Ryden, has eleven new works to share collectively entitled Animals, placing her creatures in “various situations and often anthropomorphized to reflect human emotion and mental states.” Here are couple preview images to tide you over until Saturday night. Openings: WK Interact – “WK 360” @ Jonathan LeVine (Pop-up)

A little while back, AM attended the opening for WK Interact’s mid-career survey at Jonathan LeVine’s pop-up outpost. Entitled WK 360 (previewed), this all-inclusive exhibition collected artwork from the past 25 years by the notable French-born & New York-based street artist’s storied career. Teaser: Aryz – “Style Is The Limit” @ Fifty24SF

Upstart Spanish street sensation Aryz has been very busy working on outdoor murals since he burst onto the scene a couple years ago. With his focus on the streets, he hasn’t had much time to transition to gallery work (see his 2011 show in Spain), so it will be interesting to see his solo coming up April 19th at Fifty24SF in San Francisco which will apparently might include some sculptural pieces as well. Videos: Mel Kadel – “Homemade Horse”

Mel Kadel recently collaborated on a fun little project with Jim Dirschberger (animation) & Andreas Trolf (words) entitled Homemade Horse. Openings: Charming Baker – “Lie Down I Think I Love You” @ Milk Studios (LA)

On March 22, Milk Studios in Hollywood was the site of the VIP opening preview of Charming Baker’s solo exhibition Lie Down I Think I Love You. The artist’s largest show to date explored the unpredictable nature of love through 20 paintings, as well an over-sized sculptural installation of a plastic toy passenger plane, prints, and other sculptures. For those who haven’t had a chance to visit David Choe’s “batcave,” here is an in-depth look courtesy of MOCAtv. Along with studio where he does his painting, the complex also acts as a garage, radio station, bachelor pad, and bonus level. Take a look at the video below as Choe gives a guided tour of the space including his unusually sparse bedroom where he sleeps with a modified AR-15. Discuss David Choe here.

CASIS Mission Patch ARK1 by Shepard Fairey

Shepard Fairey was recently commissioned by CASIS (the Center of Advancement of Science in Space), set up by Congress to manage the National Laboratory on the International Space Station, to create a mission patch. The piece for ARK1 (Advancing Research Knowledge 1) featured elements of some of Shep’s iconic design elements as well as an abstracted form of the ISS. Releases: KAWS – “COMPANION: Passing Through” Figure

After speaking out against a bootleg figure stylized after his massive Passing Through Companion sculpture, KAWS has announced the officially release of his own vinyl sculpt. If you remember the impressive piece was first seen in Hong Kong, followed up by a showing at The Aldrich, then at in NY at The Standard Hotel, followed by an appearance at his museum show in Atlanta, and finally at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
