Upcoming: Nate Frizzell – “Spectrum” @ LeBasse Projects (Culver City)

Tomorrow night (January 12th), the LeBasse Projects in Culver City will be presenting all new works from Nate Frizzell (interviewed). Spectrum will be his first solo showing of oil paintings since 2011 (covered) and as the title suggests, each painting will be focusing on a single color from his palette – in turn making up the full color range. Openings: José Parlá – “Diary of Brooklyn” @ Barclays Center

Just short of two weeks ago, José Parlá announced he was working on a mural titled Diary of Brooklyn, commissioned by Brooklyn’s newest arena-style concert venue and home to the Brooklyn Nets, The Barclay’s Center. This gigantic piece is the largest to date from break-out urban landscape artist José Parlá, measuring a whopping 10 x 70 feet. Preview: Jay Howell – “Enthusiastic Person” @ FFDG (SF)

On February 1st, Jay Howell will be presenting all new works at the Fecal Face Dot Gallery (FFDG), his third solo with the SF showspace. Entitled Enthusiastic Person, the 25 mixed media cartoon-styled works on paper will featuring renderings of the case of characters from his new animated children’s show Sanjay and Craig set to premiere sometime this year on Nickelodeon. If you didnt’ know, the talented LA-based artist is also behind the design of the main characters on Fox’s hit show, Bob’s Burgers. Discuss this show here.

Upcoming: Mark Dean Veca – “Made For You And Me” @ Cristin Tierney

Later this month, Mark Dean Veca (featured) will be opening his big solo in New York at the Cristin Tierney Gallery. The LA-based artist has been concentrating on side projects as of late such as his installation for the Space//Form show and a wall mural at the San Jose Museum of Art, so it will be nice to see a new comprehensive body of work from him. Streets: Phlegm (London)

It seems the Sheffiled-based Phlegm has headed south again to London for another mural. This newest piece is on the Village Underground wall on Holywell Lane and features some of the long legged creatures he has been painting as of late (see here), as well as one of his classic characters catching a ride. On January 25th, Dan Witz will be making his solo debut with Lazarides at their Rathbone gallery in London. The multi-talented painter and street artist will be sharing paintings from his Prisoner and Mosh Pit series as well as plans to paint one of his prisoner’s images onto London phone boxes. Openings: James Jean – “Parallel Lives” @ Tilton Gallery

Last night, James Jean (interviewed) premiered his latest body of work at New York’s Tilton Gallery. Entitled Parallel Lives, this amazing collection of works demonstrated the full spectrum of talent and techniques that makes James one of the hottest artists over the past decade. Releases: Josh Keyes – “Lifted II” Print

The Portland-based Josh Keyes (interviewed) recently shared a tantalizing new photo of his next print release. You may recognize the painting as Lifted II from his recent showing (covered) at the Roq La Rue Gallery in Seattle – a wise choice as that was one of the strongest images from the show and certainly a favorite of many we talked to.
