During our stroll through the seemingly endless array of booths and artwork during Art Basel in Miami, we were stopped dead in our tracks by the solo from the late Jiro Takamatsu at McCaffrey Fine Art. Brooklyn certainly seems to be getting their fair share of high-profile art projects recently. After Barry McGee’s large scale mural (covered here & here) in October at the Mark Morris Dance Group, the borough will will now see the work of José Parlá adorn the new home of the Brooklyn Nets – The Barclays Center. We have one more piece from the streets to share with you before we close the chapter on this year’s Christmas festivities. It was -25°C in Moscow recently, but that didn’t stop 0331c and his friends from holding their own celebration of the holiday season with the creation of a graffiti Xmas tree on the side of a building. After posting up the photos from Amy Sol’s (interviewed) solo during this year’s SCOPE art fair in Miami, it’s now time to share the other artist featured in the Thinkspace booth – Brian Viveros. Openings: “20 Pieces of Dreams” @ Giant Robot 2

A while back, before the current Post It 8 show (covered) that has taken over the walls of Giant Robot 2, a special show was put on at the gallery entitled 20 Pieces of Dreams. The group exhibition was curated by Mari Inukai and was meant to be in celebration of her daughter Sena’s 20th birthday, a coming of age event in Japanese culture. Merry Christmas from Escif

One of the most prolific street artists out there, Escif, apparently hasn’t taken Christmas off. He’s been on a roll as of late with increasingly more edgy and political imagery (for example here & here), not surprising as the depressing situation in Spain is fertile ground for inspiration.
