AM was recently onsite to bring you Faile breaking ground at the prominent Houston & Bowery mural (before they headed to London for their solo). Guess who’s next up to bat for the infamous NYC wall located at the corner of Houston & Bowery? Streets: Shepard Fairey @ ATP Festival (Asbury Park)

During Shepard Fairey’s stay in Asbury Park for his pop-up exhibition with Jonathan Levine Gallery (covered), the head of Obey also took some time to beautify the urban surroundings of the oceanfront city prior to the ATP Festival. Armed with cherry pickers and wall space as far as the eye could see, the posse set up shop for the week in spite of stormy weather to get their mission accomplished. AM recently attended the opening of Revolutions: Album Cover Art Of Shepard Fairey at Asbury Park. The pop-up exhibition by Shepard Fairey (featured) presented by Jonathan Levine Gallery coincided with the All Tomorrow’s Parties (ATP) music festival and featured a body of work similar to what showed at Robert Berman in Los Angeles earlier this year. Openings: “Abstractions” @ Opera Gallery

AM recently attended the opening of Abstractions at New York’s Opera Gallery. The special group show housed two separate groups of artists. The first was a retrospective from the old school abstract movement from the 1940 to present day. Original works from artists such as Miro, Francis, Soulages, Hartung, Fontana, Arman and Matta were on display. This contrasted with the second group of names from today’s artistic movement like Rostarr, Bast, Ron English, Saber and more who have evolved in their own form of abstraction. […]

Mallick Williams led off the art season with solo exhibition recently with a show coinciding with the 9/11 tragedy by New York contemporary artist Erik Foss. The show entitled Avarice is a series of over 80 abstract paintings featuring challenging tha status quo notions of propriety and function between the worlds of high art and downtown culture. Several weeks ago, showing alongside Dylan Egon, the The Art Army Royalty of Michael Leavitt (interviewed) were on full display at New York’s Jonathan LeVine gallery. The solo show was made up entirely of Michael’s signature sculptural tributes to artists featuring a melding of their eerily accurate portraits and features of their work. AM recently caught the opening of Richard Hambleton’s A Retrospective at Phillips de Pury’s Park Avenue gallery space. The two floor location showcased a survey of Richard’s long history of working in both street and fine art with pieces dating back to 1982 on display including his classic shadow silhouettes to his more recent contemporary landscapes that he names “beautiful paintings.” Of course, much like the last opening hosted by Valmorbida, the fashion week event drew a mix of New York’s elite to catch this […]

Openings: Cope2 – “Last Legend” @ Bob’s Gallery

AM recently attended the opening of Bronx graffiti writer COPE2’s show at bOb Gallery. Entitled Last Legend, the hometown legend showcased a body of work with a different style as we have seen recently from his tour of duty in Los Angeles and Copenhagen.
