Openings: Tomokazu Matsuyama – “East Weets Mest” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Last week was the start of another art season in NYC, and Joshua Liner Gallery started it if off with a bang with East Weets Mest, the second full-gallery solo exhibition by Brooklyn-based, Japanese artist Tomokazu Matsuyama (interviewed). Being great admirers of Matsu’s work and having seen some of the pieces during our recent studio visit, our expectations for this show were high, and we were not at all let down. Matsu put together an exciting collection of paintings and sculptures, diverse yet cohesive, which […]

Streets: WK Interact – “Project Brave”

Over the weekend, New Yorker’s received a new mural to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of 9/11, courtesy of WK Interact. Openings: “Yard Dogs” @ Wooster Street Social Club

We recently attended the opening of Yard Dogs at New York’s Wooster Street Social Club. Streets: Shepard Fairey – Manhattan

Earlier this month, Shepard Fairey came and visited the Big Apple to work on a few projects (more on that later). In between his indoor sessions, he invited AM to tag along while he worked to beautify some legal spots in Manhattan. Many of you may recognize his classic wheat paste-ups, but Mr. Obey and his assistant Nick have expanded his outdoor tool-set to stenciling. Much like his giant Mandala Ornament mural and he stenciled in Miami and his WeHo Library wall in Los Angeles, he’s […]

Studio Visits: Jeremy Fish

With the last week of Jeremy Fish’s (featured) Listen and Learn exhibition (covered) coming to a close at Joshua Liner Gallery, we bring you an inside look at Mr. Fish’s San Francisco studios when we visited the artist earlier this year as he was getting ready for the show. Remember this is the last week, if you haven’t made a stop to catch this show, do so before it closes this Saturday. Check out the full set taken for us by Joe Russo after the jump.

Openings: Jeremy Fish – “Listen and Learn” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

A couple weeks ago, AM caught the opening of Jeremy Fish’s (featured) exhibition at the Joshua Liner Gallery. The show Listen and Learn showcased not only the bold and complex characters that make up Jeremy’s cartoon-like style, but also the stories of multiple angles told from the viewpoints of different people from all walks of life. With the Snoop Dogg collaboration video we teased you with for comparison, you can see the diversity of focus as the other subjects included skateboarders, strippers, athletes, and more. Each person not […]

Previews: Shepard Fairey – “Citykids” @ Wooster Street Social Club

You may remember last year during the finals days of Deitch Projects, Shepard Fairey (featured) held his solo exhibition May Day in New York. What you may not have seen was a special community mural project he created with the Citykids Foundation. AM was on hand to capture Shepard and his crew engaging intercity youths to create a series of twelve 8 x 4 foot panels as part of the A Positive Thought Cannot Be Denied project. From July 6th to July 18th, the Wooster Street Social Club […]
