Releases: “Murakami Versailles” Book

Much like Jeff Koons, who in 2008 was the first artist granted the honor of  exhibiting in the royal French chateau, a book is set to release chronicling Takashi Murakami’s recent efforts to reinvent the home decor of the historic Palace of Versailles (covered). Ranking as the 39th most powerful art figure by Art Review, the Japanese pop art sensation had an impressive year, continuing his partnership Louis Vuitton, exhibiting with Gagosian in Rome, participating in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and even “collaborating” with […]

Basel Week Miami ’10: Shepard Fairey – “Mandala Ornament”

Art Basel Week in Miami may have a lot of action indoors at the fairs, but that’s not the only place you will find the arts. As you can see with Wynwood Walls and along the streets of Miami, in recent years we have seen artists make contributions on the outdoors too. We took a break from the fair circuit during the week to meet up with friend Shepard Fairey to catch him working on this gorgeous Mandala Ornament mural on the side of a […]

Last Saturday night, the masks came off for Sylvia Ji’s (interviewed) and her new body of work, Shapeshifter, at the Corey Helford Gallery. Featuring Ji’s unique portraiture minus the “Day of the Dead” facial markings, this collection of paintings were revealing in more ways than one and was built around Native American imagery. Streets: Basel Week Miami ’10 Overview (Part III)

Here is a third and final look at the street art from Art Basel Week Miami (see part I and Part II, and Wynwood Walls) as we wind down our coverage the art highlight event of the year. We will definitely be back again next year as each successive fair seems to get bigger and better. Basel Week Miami ’10 – Andrea Rosen Gallery

With a booth containing sculptures by two of the hottest artists working today – David Altmejd and Sterling Ruby and large-scale pieces by Wolfgang Tillmans, Andrea Rosen Gallery’s booth at Art Basel didn’t need to do much further to stand apart from the others at the Art Basel fair, but stand out it did.  With a small room dedicated to work by the late Felix Gonzalez-Torres whom the gallery is showing at their New York location in a couple of days, Rosen made its booth […]

Releases / Streets: Nate Lowman Bullet Hole Print and NYC Wall

The Details Guild is an organization that works with leading artists to broaden community interaction with art through public installations, art education and mentoring programs.  They recently called upon Nate Lowman (who had a triptych shown at this year’s Basel Miami), who, with the help of some students, created a wall mural that went up on the corner of West 13th and Washington in NYC. In addition, he made a signed print edition of 50 featuring his signature bullet hole to raise money for teen […]

The Selby Visits Pharrell

Todd Selby certainly has been invited to visit many of the artists that we admire in the past (ie: Robert Longo & Mr.). This time, he visits Pharrell, who just performed at Art Basel Miami (covered) in his Miami home where his collection of KAWS paintings and sculptural pieces apparently play a prominent role in his interior decorating aside from a Keith Haring piece. The series of commission pieces based on Family Guy as well as rare edition figures certainly has AM jealous – oh, […]
