After showing you some in-progress shots and some sneak peeks of the massive amount of work in progress on the streets of Kakaako, we now have a recap of many of the walls and public interventions that were created for POW! WOW! Hawaii. This year’s event had locations that were more compact and centrally located, leading to a more easily navigated set of murals. With this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii winding down over the weekend, it’s now time to take look at some of the finished murals for the annual event. Another interesting collaboration created on this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii (more coverage here) was the one by Nosego and Angry Woebots. These two artists joined their recognizable visual languages together in a colorful visual explosion created at the festival’s headquarters at Lana Lane. At 10am on Monday, Feb 9th, the mural painting part of POW! WOW! Hawaii 2015 officially begun with a traditional Hawaiian blessing ceremony at the Lana Lane headquarters in Kaka’ako in Honolulu. After the ceremony, the artists picked up their paint and needed equipment and started working on their designated walls. Last night, POW! WOW! Hawaii kicked things off with a group show curated by Thinkspace at the Honolulu Museum Of Art School (111 Victoria Street). Entitled Exploring The New Contemporary Movement, the exhibition featured an impressive and diverse roster or artists, each contributing a 12 x 12″ piece. The annual POW! WOW! art retreat in Hawaii starts this weekend and 1xRUN will be on site to work on a special show at Loft in Space / Fresh Cafe set to open on February 14th. They have also partnered with Pangea Seed, a local non profit, to exhibit prints from their archives and their new Sametan figure customized by over 30 artists. Another wall that was shared during POW WOW this year was the side of Fresh Cafe & Loft In Space, center of much of the activity surrounding the event. Getting up at this location were the LA-based artists Shark Toof and Angry Woebots with their signature characters (sharks and pandas) looking fierce. With POW WOW 2013 in full swing, AM made the rounds yesterday to check out the progress as murals were going up all around the Kakaʻako district in Honolulu.
