We are sure you all remember this video from a while back where Paris Hilton endorses Anthony Lister’s (interviewed) work. The Australian artist, who opened a show last week, apparently had time to take that encounter and paint Hilton as a superhero. Turns out she loves it… Perhaps it will end up on her walls somehow? Greg “Craola” Simkins’ (interviewed) and Anthony Lister’s (interviewed) shows opened last night at Fifty24SF with both artists in attendance to greet adoring fans.Â Simkins expanded on “still life” themes from his last two shows while Lister focused on different versions of a familiar image as well as painting photos of his friends. “Magic Tricks” is the latest solo exhibition from Australian-born painter and street artist Anthony Lister. His two-person show withÂ Craola (previewed/interviewed) opens February 5th at Fifty24SF. Lister’s latest body of work veers away from his abstracted figural imagery and focuses on paintings derived from images found in his recent book, “Tales of White Trash Prophecy.” Read about this and more in the rest of our interview, after the jump.
Last night’s opening for “15 Years of New Image Art” (previewed here and here) reaffirmed why New Image Art is one of the primary driving forces in the alternative/low-brow/street art scene. The show was everything we thought it would be and more – great art, an energetic crowd, and non-stop entertainment.
