After months of anticipation, the time has finally come for the curtains to be drawn back and the show to begin at this year’s Art Basel Miami Beach. One of the first things we did yesterday when we arrived in Miami was attend the Emmanuel Perrotin party and opening reception at their gallery space. The event centered around Daniel Arsham’s sixth solo exhibition, Alter, with three new body of works – Objects from Antiquity, Push Puppets and Pixel Clouds. Playful mixed-media artist Jen Stark will be showcasing a new selection of her meticulously constructed sculptural works during Art Basel Week in Miami. It looks like Mr. Gaia is getting things started down in Miami with this piece on 14th Street. The hybrid owl-human-rabbit looks similar to a piece he did for All City Block Party recently and has been layered on top of some Dick Chicken and Shark Toof (you can see this better after the jump…)

Kaws waxes philosphical in this new video from Nowness in their series of artist interviews for this year’s Art Basel. As he talks about life, we get a glimpse at some new work featuring some bold new colors heading out to different shows at this year’s fair including OHWOW’s group show and Emmanuel Perrotin’s booth. Our friend Jasper Wong stopped by the “Trespass” book release and signing a couple weeks ago at the Beverly Hills outpost of Taschen and snapped some pics for us. In related news, the final event of the year surrounding the publication will be a signing at Art Basel Week.
