One of the exhibitions we made sure to stop by while in Miami for Art Basel Week back in December was the survey of Ai Weiwei’s work at the Perez Art Museum Miami. Housed in the newly designed building by Herzog & de Meuron, the showing spans the Chinese activist – artist’s 20 year career and features a wide range of works including photography and the large-scale installations like the amazing stacked bicycles seen above. Like in 2010, painters Brian Viveros (featured) & Dan Quintana will be teaming up for a joint exhibition with Copro Gallery with the first showing during Art Basel Week in Miami. We have some photos here of Viveros’ working […]
With Basel Week Switzerland coming to an end, here is a look at the Thinkspace Gallery booth at the SCOPE art fair. The showing focused on the works Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed) and Esao Andrews with both artists continuing to show progression in their aesthetic. Kawasaki’s new paintings this time were solely created on dark backgrounds, something that not commonly seen in high numbers in one body of work, which contrasted nicely with her choice of vibrant colors to complement her seductive muses. Andrews’ inclusion of the female form in several of […]
One of the satellite fairs during Basel Week Switzerland is the always quality SCOPE Art Fair. Although, this venue lacks the blue-chip luster of the main event (covered), we always find many familiar faces and intriguing works at this fair. Take a look at an overview of what was offered in the photos below… Photo credit: Andrew Hosner for Arrested Motion.
A couple weeks ago, we gave you a taste of what to expect for the KAWS solo at More Gallery opening during Basel Week Switzerland. Now, we have gathered some more detailed photos of the two massive wood companion sculptures as well as some of the tondos that were exhibited at the same time. We know it’s a trek to get out to the show even if you are in Basel at the moment, so if you can’t make it out before the August 26th close, just take a […]
There are numerous high quality art fairs occurring year round but the granddaddy of them all is Art Basel in Switzerland which opened its doors this week. Drawing some of the most prestigious galleries to exhibit a seemingly endless list of notable artists such as Kaws, Rob Pruitt, Will Cotton, Shepard Fairey, Takashi Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara and Jeff Elrod (just to name a very few), it’s no wonder that the wealthiest collectors and the hard-core art enthusiasts flock to Switzerland each year for a chance […]
As most in the art world knows, Basel Week Switzerland is underway. While not everyone can make the two hour trek over to check what looks to be an epic showing from KAWS, you should stop by SCOPE after checking out the main fair. Thinkspace Gallery is featuring seductive new paintings from Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed) at their booth in a mini-solo. Check out some more preview images below… Discuss this show here. With Art Basel opening next week in Switzerland, the art world is gearing up for another round of festivities after barely recovering from the Hong Kong version. One of the associated shows that we are looking forward to is KAWS’ GISWIL at More Gallery. Along a massive wooden companions with “Pinocchio noses,” paintings from the American artist will also be on display. The exhibition runs through August 26th so don’t miss this if you are in the area. Photos via the artist. Discuss KAW here.
