We recently attended the public unveiling of the new Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) mural created by KAWS we first previewed at night. The new mural location also contains a bike rack specially designed by David Byrne. After another enjoyable retreat in Hawaii for AM, it’s time to wrap up another successful POW WOW (see all our coverage here). We recently gave you a first look at Barry McGee mural that was in progress at Brooklyn’s Mark Morris Dance Group. Now, the mural which incorporates the Bay Area legend’s classic portrait heads and geometric designs has been completed. With the assistance from Colossal Media, the eight story high mural took about a week to finish. Seen from the local streets, this well using Twist’s signature cluster panel paintings was a sight to behold. Check out the details below…. Discuss Barry McGee here.
Last week, AM attended the much anticipated unveiling of José Parlá’s new work – Gesture Performing Dance, Dance Performing Gesture – at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). José had the honor of being the first artist commissioned to create public art for BAM’s new Richard B. Fisher building. AM recently had the chance to stop by The Brooklyn Academy of Music’s (BAM) annual silent auction to take a look at the artwork up for bid. This being their 150th anniversary, BAM got a gaggle of great artwork donated by some impressive artists working in the greater New York area such as Nate Lowman, Carmen Herrera, Tauba Auerbach, KAWS, Ryan McGinness, Jacob Kassay, Terrance Koh and many more.
