Previews: “TONDO” @ Spoke Art (SF)

This Saturday night, May 6th, Spoke Art in San Francisco will be opening a new group show entitled TONDO. As the name of the exhibition suggests, over 50 artists were asked to contribute works that were round with creative license to use their own style and imagery. Take a look at examples of the works below (and above from Amy Sol) and make plans to hit the opening if you are in the Bay Area this weekend.        

POW! WOW! Hawaii ’17 / Showing: Exploring The New Contemporary Movement” @ Honolulu Museum of Art School

Showing in associated POW! WOW! Hawaii through the tomorrow at the Honolulu Museum of Art School is the 4th annual Exploring The New Contemporary Movement group exhibition (see 2016 & 2015 & 2014) curated by Thinkspace. Artists were asked to contribute 12 x 12″ pieces leading to a visually conforming display of works. Rounding things out was a showcase for Shok-1 (seen below) and a Homer Simpson x Banksy parody installation by Oak Oak (seen above). POW! WOW! Hawaii ’16 / Previews: Exploring The New Contemporary Movement” @ Honolulu Museum of Art School

This Sunday, POW! WOW! Hawaii (more info here) kicks off with a re-occurring show curated by Thinkspace at the Honolulu Museum of Art School entitled Exploring The New Contemporary Movement (see 2016 & 2015 & 2014). As in the past, the format is 12 x 12″ works, leading to a visually congruent display of artworks, some of which were inspired by island life. Streets / Recap: POW! WOW! Antelope Valley

Held in conjunction with The New Vanguard at MOAH was the latest iteration of the POW! WOW! series of street art festivals. POW! WOW! Antelope Valley featured murals from Amandalynn, Andrew Schoultz, David Flores, Bumblebeelovesyou, Yoskay Yamamoto (seen above), Julius Eastman, Kris Holladay, Lady Echo, Mark Dean Veca, MEGGS, MOUF and Michael Jones. Previews: Bumblebeelovesyou – “#WhereWeBeelong” @ Thinkspace

Opening on Saturday night (June 20th) in the Thinkspace Gallery project room is #WhereWeBeelong, a new show from Bumblebeelovesyou. The works for the exhibitioni mirror the Los Angeles-based street artist’s outdoor imagery – whimsical scenes of children at play, of course oftentimes dressed in yellow and black or peppered with references to his namesake.
