Last Thursday, renowned artist and AM favorite Barry McGee made his debut with New York blue chip gallery Cheim & Read. The solo exhibition marked the return of Barry to the Big Apple after an eight year absence. The San Francisco Art Institute alumnus brought along a diverse arsenal of graffiti, folk and op art techniques for this prime showcase of his colorful and bold visual vocabulary. With a hugely popular retrospective that just closed at the Berkeley Art Museum, Barry McGee exhibited two new pieces with his new New York gallery Cheim and Read in its booth at Art Basel Miami Beach. A gigantic skull painting by Donald Baechler was another highlight, as it stared blankly at fair-goers.
