With a hugely popular retrospective that just closed at the Berkeley Art Museum, Barry McGee exhibited two new pieces with his new New York gallery Cheim and Read in its booth at Art Basel Miami Beach. A gigantic skull painting by Donald Baechler was another highlight, as it stared blankly at fair-goers. It’s that time of the year again. Haunch of Venison will again play host to the heavy hitting benefit by HiArt! (last year). This year’s event, entitled Changing the World Through Art, is going to be another chance for art fans to catch some of their favorite artists through the silent auction.
