After Passing Through Hong Kong in 2010 with the debut of his now famous massive sitting companion which has now also travelled to New York, and Connecticut, KAWS will be giving his fans in Asia what they have been jonesing for – a solo show. Scheduled to open on May 15th at Galerie Perrotin, The Nature of Need will feature more of the New York based artist and designer’s colorful geometric abstractions. One of the first things we did yesterday when we arrived in Miami was attend the Emmanuel Perrotin party and opening reception at their gallery space. The event centered around Daniel Arsham’s sixth solo exhibition, Alter, with three new body of works – Objects from Antiquity, Push Puppets and Pixel Clouds. Last night, the first members of the AM crew flew into Miami for our coverage for Art Basel Week and what greeted us was the opening bash at Emmanuel Perrotin. The night’s exclusive events included cocktails, a fabulously catered dinner, an outdoor dance floor where the guests got down for the festivities. Vernissage TV caught up with Pharrell Williams and interviewed him about the collaboration piece he did withÂ Takashi Murakami andÂ Jacob the Jeweler at Art Basel (Switzerland). Gems of this interview include where he says “bling, I do not wear,” how he was reluctant to call himself an artist, and his love for cupcakes (really, are they THAT good?).Â Not sure we would have chosen the same “…simple things” he did, but we loved the sculpture. Last time we were with Pharrell & Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin, it was at Art Basel Miami. Over a half year later, they reveal this secret project at Art Basel Switzerland. Check this amazing collaboration between Takashi Murakami, Pharrell Williams and Jacob & Co – a mind blowing sculpture entitled “The Simple Things.” Think Superflat meets hip hop and Metroid.
