Entitled Something Previous, the body of work on display consists of some pieces from her signature series of weavings documenting selfie and sexting culture, the intimate snaps that often make their way onto the internet, inadvertent or not. Riley further states – “Consuming and sending images is a daily practice in most of our lives. We see, narrate, and covet. Our relationship […]

Upcoming: Erin M Riley – “Crimson Landslide” @ Space 1026

On February 7th, Space 1026 in Philadelphia will be opening a solo show from Erin M Riley (interviewed) entitled Crimson Landslide. These new pieces from the young artist, who recently relocated to Brooklyn from Philly, will depict everyday objects and the detritus of female identity like toiletries, birth control pills, and more. We have seen imagery like this before from Riley, nice companion pieces to her signature weavings of nude or scantily clad young women portraits, but this will be the first time these type of […]

Interview: Erin M Riley

Erin M Riley is a Philadelphia-based artist whose chosen medium is weaving, something that has not been covered much here on AM. What drew us to her tapestries in particular is her use of unconventional imagery, which bridges the gap between traditional techniques and contemporary issues that affect youth today. At times deeply personal and honest, her work explores post party mishaps, social and sexual interactions of dating, death, pop culture and more. We had the chance to interview her ahead of a showing at Paradigm […]
