Last month, White Walls Gallery in San Francisco opened a group exhibition entitled Space//Squared. Curated by Sven Davis, the showing was a followup to an event last year in Portland (covered). This time around, participating artists were again asked to contribute artwork in a 10 x 10″ format. Last month, the Breeze Block Gallery in Portland hosted a two person show from Erin Murray & Tristram Lansdowne (interviewed) entitled Order of Operations. Although the two artists’ imagery are worlds apart, a common theme of appreciation for architectural forms runs throughout their work – Lansdowne with his unnatural blending of natural landscapes and structures (although not as evident in this body of work) and Murray with her intriguing renderings on shaped canvases. Tonight (February 6th), the Breeze Block Gallery in Portland will be presenting new work from Canadian artist Tristram Lansdowne (interviewed), along with Erin Murray in a two-person show. Entitled Order Of Operations, the exhibition will highlight Lansdowne’s architectural forms that appear to be in harmony with the natural landscapes they are found in as well as Murray’s buildings and structures rendered on shaped panels. Earlier this month, the Buddy System Invitational (curated by Sven Davis) opened at the Breeze Block Gallery in Portland. The group exhibition centered on the interesting concept having each of the 22 invited artists bring along a fellow artist to exhibit alongside them with each contributing one 16 x 20″ & one 8 x 8″ artwork.
