Basel Week Miami ’15 / Recap: NADA

During Basel Week Miami, the second must-visit fair right behind Art Basel Miami Beach every year is NADA Miami Beach. Focusing on younger galleries and artists, NADA typically contains more fresh to market works, surprising finds, and new discoveries. Located for the first time this year at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel, it includes exhibitors from 32 cities in 15 different countries, and 21 first-time participants. Next year’s edition of the fair will be even bigger, as it expands to another section of the hotel. […]

Streets: Banksy (Calais “Jungle” Refugee Camp)

Today on the interwebs, Banksy shared his latest series of works created at the migrant encampment in Calais, France. The timely stenciled pieces that appeared in the so called “jungle” refugee camp features commentary on the crisis like the one seen above reminding us that Steve Job’s biological father was a Syrian migrant. The elusive street artist further states – “We’re often led to believe migration is a drain on the country’s resources but Steve Jobs was the son of a Syrian migrant. Apple is the world’s most profitable […]

Basel Week Miami ’15: Art Basel Miami Beach // Nova Sector

The Art Basel fair is known for presenting the best of the best in established blue chip international art. It is also a place where collectors, curators, and enthusiasts can also discover new artists as well. The Nova sector of the fair is designed for galleries to present one, two or three artists showing works created within the last three years. It features strong associations and fresh, never-before-seen pieces from the artist’s studio to each gallery’s booths. Galleries and artists exhibiting in this sector include Michael Jon […]

Basel Week Miami ’15 / Recap: KITH Homage

Another event that caught our attention during Basel Week Miami was KITH Homage, a group exhibition curated by Joshua Liner Gallery. Participants in the pop-up show included Wayne White, Josh Sperling, Alfred Steiner, Greg Lamarche, Michael Kagan, Erin M. Riley, Evan Hecox, Riusuke Fukahori, Paul Wackers, Jim […]

Basel Week Miami ’15 / Recap: Untitled

Another strong satellite fair seen during this year’s Basel Week Miami was certainly Untitled. From familiar and well established names to young, new emerging talents from around the globe, the fair included paintings, installations, sculptures as well as performance art pieces. Aside from classic works by Barry Mcgee, Claire Rojas, Jen Stark, Daniel Arsham or Ed Moses, Untitled introduced us to some new names and fresh […]

Basel Week Miami ’15 / Streets: Wynwood Walls

Once again, the Wynwood Arts District became the capital of the street art world during Basel Week Miami. With artists from around the globe painting on every corner of this lively neighborhood and related events happening at local bars, clubs, galleries and parks, one of the main events was surely going down at Wynwood Walls. This year, the outdoor museum of street art ran by Goldman Properties added a nice new selection of fresh works to their existing collection. The main area got fresh new piece […]

Basel Week Miami ’15 / Streets: Smog One

While our coverage of Basel Week Miami has so far focused on the fairs, shows, and satellite events, there is another aspect of our time there that we haven’t started sharing with you yet – art on the streets. First up is a new piece from the locally-based Smog One painted in the Wynwood District (328 NW 29th St.) Put up on the side of NAPA Auto Parts, the mural features elements that the writer born and raised in Paris is known for – 3D rendering skills […]

One of the most anticipated satellite events of this year’s Basel Week Miami was the Larry Gagosian and Jeffrey Deitch collaboration – an exhibition entitled Unrealism. The show opened on the 2nd of December at The Moore Building in the Miami Design District and will stay on view until the 6th of December. Showcasing works by over 50 international artists, this exceptionally well curated show celebrates the recent revival of interest in figurative painting and sculpture. Very diverse in their styles, interest and aesthetics, the selected participants are some of the […]

James Jean – Apple Pencil // Ipad Pro

Gifted artist James Jean (interviewed) recently was recruited by Apple to promote their new Pencil stylus which pairs nicely with the newly released iPad Pro. Jean put the novel technology to good use by drawing his amazing imagery directly onto the tablet, which you can see in the images included here. If you have already watched the commercial (below) featuring the new device, you may have already seen what he came up with already. Discuss James Jean here.
