POW WOW ’19 / Previews: “My Neighbor Hayao” @ Ala Moana Center

As part of this year’s POW! WOW! HAWAII, Spoke Art will be presenting a group exhibition entitled My Neighbor Hayao. The tribute show to the Hayao Miyazki features work from over 100 international artists (like Dan Mumford above) each contributing an interpretation of their favorite Miyazaki films, characters and scenes. This special weekend-only showing will be on view inside Ala Moana Center (unit 1234) from February 13-17.

On February 4th, Spoke Art’s San Francisco location will be hosting a group show celebrating the films of Japanese film-maker and animator Hayao Miyazaki. Over fifty artists will be contributing works inspired by the Studio Ghibli director’s classic films such as My Neighbor Totoro (seen in the artwork above by Monica Garwood). Hayao Miyazaki Un-retires

Fans around the world were delighted to hear last month that Studio Ghibli founder Hayao Miyazaki will be working on a ten minute short that will screen exclusively at the Studio Ghibli museum in Japan. His son Goro Miyazaki revealed that his father is bored maintaining the museum and wants to keep busy working on a new three year project that will feature a 3D animation about a caterpillar named Boro.
