Continuing their series of curatorial group shows, Thinkspace will be bringing their roster of artists to Chicago on September 3rd at Vertical Gallery. Like previous iterations, the show is titled after the airports of Los Angeles, where the gallery is based and the location where they are visiting – LAX / ORD. Charismatic Megafauna opened at Roq La Rue earlier this month to a packed house. Celebrating the vast diversity of the animal kingdom, the exhibition features a wide variety of creatures, some recognizable, while others are not from this world. That diversity extends itself to the artists included in the show with a plethora of styles and mediums on display, from traditional paintings, life sized creations, and even a mesmerizing illuminated wall-hung sculpture. One of the first satellite fairs we hit during Basel Week Miami was SCOPE Miami, situated nicely in their pavilion on the beach off Ocean Drive. Celebrating its 15th anniversary edition with 120 international exhibitors from 22 countries and 57 cities, the fair had something for everyone including this Suck Face bronze from D*Face seen above and the Felipe Pantone installation seen directly below. Artists Adam Doyle, Brad Woodfin, Camille Rose Garcia, Chris Berens, Femke Hiemstra, Jacub Gagnon, Jean Pierre Arboleda, Jessica Joslin (seen above), Joey Bates, Josh Keyes, Josie Morway, Justin Beckman, Laurie Hogin, Lindsey Carr, Michael Alm, Peter Ferguson, Peter Gronquist, and Scott Musgrove were asked to contribute a piece that focuses on some of the world’s largest and most spectacular species, and even what appear to be some mythical ones.
Next week during Basel Week Miami, along with a couple mini-solos, Thinkspace will also have group exhibitions on display including many artists contributing pieces in a 12 x 12″ format for a special wall. This weekend, a show co-curated by Andrew and Shawn Hosner of Los Angeles’ Thinkspace Gallery and Josef Zimmerman of the Fort Wayne Museum of Art will open at the museum. Entitled Invisible College, the group exhibition refers to the fact that many of the participants have found success outside of the traditional art educational model.
