Time Magazine: Top 10 Guerrilla Artists

Who says street art has no cred with the mainstream? Kinda saying a lot when one of the most respected publications in the world takes the time to break out a “Top Ten” list of the top “Guerrilla Artists.” The usual suspects – Jean-Michel Basquiat, Shepard Fairey and Banksy are there. Openings: Louis Vuitton Exhibition – A Passion for Creation (Hong Kong)

Last night, Louis Vuitton premiered a show they curated entitled A Passion for Creation at the Hong Kong Museum of Art with a shortlist of some of the top names in Contemporary Art.Â Some of the artists included Jean-Michel Basquiat, Jeff Koons, Paul Chan, Cao-Fei, Yang Fudong, Gilbert & George, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Andreas Gursky, Pierre Huyghe, Bertrand Lavier, and Christian Marclay. Street Art Shows Strong @ Sotheby’s Contemporary Day Auction

We heard a rumor that the economy is not well and the art market is hurting. Apparently, the folks attending Sothebyâ€™s Contemporary Day auction donâ€™t agree. Today’s sale yielded solid results, with 337 lots pulling in over 21.5 million USD. Among the amazing lineup of artists, such as Warhol, Basquiat, Kippenberger and Cy Twombly, AM noted the inclusion of two iconic names from the “Urban Art” genre: Shepard Fairey and Banksy. Opening: The Piece Process @ Anonymous

A spirited crowd came out last night for the opening of “The Piece Process” at Anonymous Gallery on New York’s Lower East Side. The concept: connect pop/urban/graffiti/street artists from the last fifty years through an exhibition of their sketches, studies and preliminary works.
