Filmed and edited in his signature style, this The Wrinkles of the City video documents JR’s recent project in Shanghai which included an exhibition (covered) and street work (covered). With the general release of his acclaimed Women Are Heroes documentary set for this week in his home country, although not in the film, this footage should only excite the French street photographer’s fans even more before the worldwide release. The prolific and daring photographer/street artist JR has just been announced as the winner of the 2011 TED Prize, joining prestigious alumnus such as Bill Clinton and Bono. The TED Prize is awarded annually to an exceptional individual making a change in the world. It looks like JR’s latest project (through Galerie Magda Danysz) is underway in China as he starts his installs for “The Wrinkles of the City”. The street pieces are set to coincide with the Shanghai Biennale and will feature the French photographer’s captured images of the elderly who represent the memory of the city.
