We just wanted to let you know about an interesting project on display this October at La Luz de Jesus – the Lowbrow Tarot Project curated by Aunia Kahn. She has invited 22 other great artists including Kris Kuksi, David Stoupakis, Chet Zar, Laurie Lipton, Brian Viveros, Scott G. Brooks, and Jennybird Alcantara to create artwork inspired by the 22 major Arcana of tarot cards, each representing an aspect of human emotion. Openings: “Love Conquers All” @ Thinkspace Gallery

Last Saturday night, AM stopped by the “Love Conquers All” show in Culver City at the Thinkspace Gallery. The exhibition’s concept was based on the struggle of the gay community for equality with part of the proceeds were donated to Equality California. Things don’t always turn out well for themed group shows, but this time, many of the artists were able to maintain their signature imagery yet at the same time subtly produce relevant works. This Saturday night, August 7th, Thinkspace Gallery will be hosting “Love Conquers All”, a group show supporting the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender) struggle with 20% of the proceeds donated to Equality California. Looking through the preview, there really are some pretty strong pieces in this show from many of the artists that we cover here on AM. London-based artist, Laurie Lipton, is getting set to open her show this weekend at the Grand Central Art Center at Cal State Fullerton. This exhibition will include new and old works (some from her Liverpool show in November), featuring some of her signature incredibly detailed “drawings” that have to be seen to be believed. “Weapons of Mass Delusion”, opening May 1st, not only showcases Lipton’s rendering skills but also her biting social commentary including familiar scenarios such as impotent witnesses to a crime (seen above), […]

Another talented group of artists will be participating in a group show next month entitled “Visionary Art”. The exhibition, held in Italy’s Mondo Bizarro Gallery will include Greg “Craola” Simkins (featured), Laurie Lipton, Dan Quintana, Naoto Hattori and Mike Davis. Preview: Laurie Lipton @ Novas Contemporary Urban Centre

One of the most detailed and imaginative artists when it comes to “drawing” with pencil and charcoal, Laurie Lipton is about to open a show today in Liverpool at the Novas Contemporary Urban Centre. Entitled “Homotoptia,” the show is named after Liverpool’s annual celebration of Queer Culture. We are looking forward to this new body of work as Lipton’s work has a interesting new industrial look to it. More after the jump.
