Recap: Brendan Monroe – “Mammatus” @ Curator’s Cube

Earlier this year, Brendan Monroe (interviewed) held a showcase in Japan at Curator’s Cube entitled Mammatus. The exhibition in Tokyo featured several of the American artist’s distinctive ceramic sculptures and some of his organic black and white patterned drawings, which were complemented nicely with a wall mural. A couple weeks ago the seventh edition of Art Market San Francisco returned to the Fort Mason’s Festival Pavilion to the delight of collectors and art fans in the Bay Area. Featuring works from artists working with an international selection of 80 different galleries, the event looked to have something for everyone. This Saturday, May 13, Joao Ruas will be opening a solo at Jonathan LeVine Projects in New Jersey entitled Geist. The concept behind the new work, according to the Sao Paulo-based artist, was inspired by The Phenomenology of the Spirit by G. W. F. Last month, the Fort Wayne Museum of Art (in association with Thinkspace Gallery) hosted the opening of Robert Williams’ Midwestern debut.
