Every year, legions of people from around the nation flock to NYC for a little Thanksgiving time with friends & family. During this busy holiday weekend, one of the traditions is the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. Come later next month, those who will be watching the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will see KAWS’ iconic Companion character float by as a 40-foot-long balloon. Following in the tradition of other artists (Takashi Murakami & Tim Burton) who have had their iconic characters blown up for the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, street turned contemporary artist KAWS will have the honor the next time the event comes around. For those of you waking up to enjoy Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, keep you eyes out for a balloon from director, artist, illustrator, photographer, and writer Tim Burton, whose retrospective exhibition recently showed at the LACMA. Last year, it was Takashi Murakami who grabbed the attention of art-loving parade-goers, this year it will be this B. Takashi Murakami @ Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (New York)

When fall began, we kicked off coverage of Takashi Murakami’s concept to create two giant floats in the image of his beloved studio mascots Kaikai & Kiki for Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Today, he wished us Happy Thanksgiving from New York as he surprised spectators by donning a flower costume rolling on a little float decorated with his famous “Jellyfish Eyes”.
