The Metro Gallery in Melbourne very recently hosted the opening reception for Dabs Myla’s latest solo show – All Good Things… Along with paintings featuring the whimsical cartoonish characters which are often seen in their outdoor work, the duo also transformed the space with wall murals and installations (a regular occurrence for those familiar with their exhibitions). Upcoming: Dabs Myla – “All Good Things…” @ Metro Gallery

Coming up on the 1st of February, Dabs Myla will be heading to Melbourne for their latest show entitled All Good Things… Presented in association with LRG Clothing, the exhibition at Metro Gallery will feature a series of new paintings and drawings as well as a large onsite installation. Streets: ROA (Australia)

While in Australia recently for his solo showing at Backwoods Gallery (covered), the Belgium-based ROA not surprisingly brought his special form of portraiture to the streets down under. Included in these new murals were pieces painted at the Healesville Sanctuary in Melbourne, a non-profit conservation organization dedicated to fighting wildlife extinction. As usual, ROA chose species that are native to the area to render like the platypus and wombat. Openings: ROA – “Carrion” @ Backwoods Gallery

The Beligum-based ROA, who was recently featured on MOCAtv, has a new exhibition in Melbourne at the Backwoods Gallery entitled Carrion. Fans down under may remember his last showing in Oz in 2010 (covered), but this time the street artist took it up a notch with his installations. Along with his anatomical dissections of native species with his brushstrokes, the art was surrounded by tanks filled with decaying creatures and skeletal remains. Upcoming: ROA – “Carrion” @ Backwoods Gallery

After his show in September in San Francisco (covered), street muralist and amateur zoologist ROA will be hitting up the other side of the globe with his latest solo exhibition. Held at the Backwoods Gallery in Melbourne, with the opening scheduled for November 30th, Carrion will explore the friction between man, animal, civilization and nature through the Belgium-based artist’s signature anatomical and interactive style. Also available will be 25 copies of his limited edition book to coincide with the opening. Discuss ROA here.

Openings: ABOVE – “JET SET” @ Metro Gallery

ABOVE (interviewed) recently opened his solo show at the Metro Gallery entitled JET SET, appropriately named as evidenced by the Bay Area-based street artist’s globetrotting ways. The new body of work featured his signature arrows, refreshed with travel books and what look to be tourist photos. Also rounding out the exhibition was a London telephone booth installation, airline stewardesses dressed in retro 1950s “pan am” attire handing out boarding passes to showgoers, and two professional Argentinian tango dancers. Openings: HUSH – “Sirens” @ Metro Gallery

Last night, Melbourne artlovers were treated to a new solo show from Hush (interviewed) at the Metro Gallery. Entitled Sirens, the new body of work consisted of  13 large pieces and 24 smaller more experimental works as well as a wall murals and some hand finished touches. The new pieces have been in the making for over six months, time well spent building up layers and mixtures of chaotic throws, urban elements, textures, and the female form. Preview: Jasper Wong – “A Corny Concerto” @ No Vacancy

Tomorrow night (April 28th) in Melbourne, the No Vacancy Gallery (The Atrium, Federation Square location) will be hosting a solo show from Jasper Wong (interviewed). The multi-talented painter, illustrator, and curator will be presenting a selection of work utilizing his signature mix of humor and asian-influenced pop culture entitled A Corny Concerto.
