Earlier this evening, AM stopped by Wynwood Walls to check out the opening of the Time Evaporates, Emotion Elevates group exhibition inside the new Nicewalk Gallery space. The show featured backlit lenticular paintings (or photos) alongside some original works from selected artists (Aiko, Ron English, Swoon, How & Nosm, Logan Hicks, Kenny Scharf, Futura) who have painted murals at the complex. The title comes from a quote from Tony Goldman (founder of Wynwood Walls), who recently passed, with whom many of the artists included had an especially […]

With Basel Week Miami just around the corner, street and graffiti artists have been busying themselves the last several weeks on murals and walls throughout the area. One of those in town is the South Africa-based DAL who hasn’t hesitated to get up several of his kinetic creations including the piece above entitled Rug-A and the one below Osteoplasty.C. For those in New York, he will also be opening a show POWDER of LIGHT at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery next to Joe Sorren’s new work. Discuss Basel Week […]
Those visiting the PULSE fair next week in Miami will have to keep their eyes our for an installation from the Los Angeles-based Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed). The project made possible by LeBasse Projects and Perrier will be over 24′ long and consist of 120 new cast sculptures in the same vein as his do you remember me… installation for his solo in 2010. For those interested in learning more about Yoskay and his work, head over to Société Perrier to read the interview they conducted as well as enter a contest […]
Another thing to add to the list to visit next week during Basel Week Miami is the Cooper Cole booth at The Miami Project (which appears to be a new fair this year). Jen Stark, who showed with the Toronto gallery (covered) last year (as well as in Los Angeles recently), will be presenting two new holographic pedestals, a variation on her cut paper sculptures. It will be interesting to see these in person… Discuss Basel Week Miami here. Discuss Jen Stark here.
Invader recently brought his street invasion to Asia with this new piece in Hong Kong. According to his logs, the anonymous French artist has been to the city-state before and has mapped out some of the spots he has hit up, although this piece might be a legal one. In related news, the street tile specialist also made the front page of the Miami Herald and was also in the area recently based on the photographic evidence below. Miami photo via Qura Torial. You may remember some photos that Futura sent us that we shared with you last month painted for Art Wynwood. That large painting, along with work from Retna, How & Nosm, DAZE, and Aiko was destined to be displayed at the Miami fair last weekend above as part of the flying murals of Wynwood project over the VIP lounge area. Here are now some photos of them hung up along with some bonus looks at an installation by Ron English. Check it out after the […]

Another booth we took time to enjoy at Scope art fair was Los Angeles’ Corey Helford Gallery. Their enormous booth showcased a spectrum of artwork their diverse and interesting roster. We were shown fresh works from Ron English, Ray Ceasar, D*Face, Nick Walker, RISK, HUSH, Silvia Ji, Amy Sol, Meggs, just to name a few. CHG took full advantage of the Basel Week traffic to spotlight the coming year for the audiences that stopped by this packed booth. More after the jump.
Among the abundance of standalone exhibitions that AM attended during Art Basel Week Miami, one that stood out was Jason Shawn Alexander’s showing at 101/exhibit. Undertow came highly recommended by our friends at Hi-Fructose, and when we made it to the opening we could see why. The LA-based artist’s figurative work was large-scale, gritty, full of emotion & raw energy, and is certainly something you should check out if you are in the area through February 8th. More photos from the opening after the jump…
