With his major retrospective still showing in Spain (covered), Mark Ryden (interviewed) has unveiled a side project he has been working on for quite some time. For the past year, the American artist has been busy designing the costumes and sets for a new ballet called Whipped Cream by renowned choreographer Alexei Ratmansky for the American Ballet Theater. The two-act show featuring a “young boy who overindulges at a Vienna pastry shop and falls into a surreal delirium” will premiere on March 15th at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts […]
Earlier this month, Marilyn Minter opened a new show at the Orange County Museum of Art entitled Pretty/Dirty. The retrospective features over 25 paintings made between 1976 and 2015, three video works, and several photographs that highlight the American artist’s focus on society’s obsession with feminine beauty. Included are her iconic and lush works that focus on various eroticized parts of the female body like the feet, lips, and eyes. The exhibition will be on view through July 10th. A couple months ago in Santa Ana, California, Ben Eine painted a mural utilizing his signature text-based imagery with the words “Suenos Revolucionarios” or “Revolutionary Dreams.” Arranged by Marcas Gallery, the piece was considered by the British artist as one of his best walls in the last few years and it’s not hard to see why.
