Streets: DALeast // Urban Xchange (Penang)

You may already seen the mural we shared with you yesterday painted by Sabek for Urban Xchange in Penang, so here is a followup on another artist who painted a piece for the event. The image of the phoenix can be seen soaring up on a wall near the Hin Bus Depot, created with bundles of kinetic wires, a technique that is signature to the work of DALeast (interviewed). What is interesting is the Chinese artist using a red palette this time, perhaps referencing how the the mythologic bird rises from the ashes. […]

Streets: Artists for “Different Strokes” (Penang)

Along with a contributing works for Different Strokes (covered), a group show in Malaysia curated by Giancarlo Petrucci of Graffiti Prints, some of the artists also found time to work on the streets. Whether alone or in collaboration with other participants, Ernest Zacharevic (seen above), Martin Ron, Martin Whatson, Alexface, BON, Nafir, Sabek, Addison Karl, Gabriel Pitcher, and Gongjar abandoned buildings and structures as well as the urban landscape of Penang. Showing: “Different Strokes” @ Hin Bus Depot (Penang)

Showing through April 11th at the Hin Bus Depot in Penang, Malaysia is Different Strokes, a group show curated by Giancarlo Petrucci of Graffiti Prints. The exhibition includes contributions from Ernest Zacharevic, Sandra Chevrier, Icy and Sot, Martin Whatson, Beejoir, Alexface, BON, Snik, Nafir, Sabek, Levalet, Roamcouch, and Gabriel Pitcher.
