Teaser: Adam Wallacavage @ Choque Cultural (Brazil)

So, it looks like Adam Wallacavage is hard at work setting up for his show in Sao Paulo, Brazil at Choque Cultural. Here you can see the gallery from the back with one of his signature octopi chandeliers ready to go. After bringing you a glimpse (when Murakami visited) of the inaugural show at the Gagosian in Hong Kong, the gallery has sent us a more detailed look at the installation of the show and views of the spacious interior. Fresh off a “distorted” reinterpretation of his iconic Companion figure with Robert Lazzarini (covered), KAWS has now teamed up with The Standard for a collaborative project aimed at spicing up the interior lighting of the contemporary art collector’s home. Openings: Nathan Mabry – “Armature” @ Cherry and Martin

Currently on view at Culver City’s always exciting gallery Cherry and Martin is Nathan Mabry’s Armature. The exhibition features five new sculptures and a sculptural fountain. The aluminum, bronze, and steel works are wonderfully odd, humorous, engaging, and both familiar and unexpected.  The artwork references such artists as Picasso and other modernists while at the same time influenced by African and Native American art. On January 18th, Yoshimasa Tsuchiya’s new body of work will be on display at the Megumi Ogita Gallery in Tokyo. Streets: Christiaan Nagel (London)

We came across these sculptural street pieces recently from Christiaan Nagel placed last year scattered around on the East End in London. The colorful mushrooms are made from polyurethane, fiber glass, and stainless steel and are placed on top of buildings and roofs. Video: Ai Weiwei – “Sunflower Seeds” @ Tate Modern

We wanted to share this documentary we recently watched put out by the Tate Modern on Ai Weiwei’s Sunflower Seeds installation (covered). Hosted at the Turbine Hall and part of the Unilever Series of commissions for the museum, the impressive project from the Chinese artist and dissident took two and half years to complete and involved over 1600 artisans handcrafting 100 million ceramic seeds. More Christmas greetings come from street miniature photographer Slinkachu. This piece in London entitled Maz + Joe is a twist on the usual story this time of year with Mary riding something other than a Donkey, but it looks like all the places to sleep are still full.
