Showing / Videos: Phlegm – “Mausoleum of the Giants” (Sheffield)

Since last week’s opening, fans of Phlegm’s distinctive work have flocked to his hometown of Sheffield to take a look at his most ambitious project to date. Mausoleum of the Giants is an immersive exhibition by the British artist featuring large-scale sculptural installations that dominate the dim rooms and corridors of the abandoned space. Encountering three-dimensional versions of his familiar characters in such somber setting while paying your last respects to these creatures will be an experience that will linger in your mind – something you don’t want […]

Upcoming: Phlegm – “Mausoleum of the Giants” (Sheffield)

So, it looks like Phlegm has been hard at work at something epic that will open to the public soon in the UK. Mausoleum of the Giants in the street artist’s home base of Sheffield will feature large-scale sculptural installations in an abandoned factory, populating the halls and rooms with creatures and elements of his distinct imagery. The solo show will be open starting March 15 and run until April 6 (head over here for the location and hours to be revealed at a later date). Photo […]

Phlegm – Market Traders Installation (Sheffield)

After putting together an elaborate installation and mural for the Royal Opera House in London (covered), Phlegm used a similar technique for a project further up north. The site-specific work was created in his home city at the Sheffield Bazaar as part of the Festival of the Mind. Housed in one of the oldest parts of the city, the scene set up shows Phlegm’s characters interacting in an old school marketplace setting. Check out more detail shots below… Photo credit: Ladoza. Openings: “Winter Group Show” @ Bradbury & Blanchard

Christmas is often an opportune time for galleries to pull out all the stops for blockbuster group exhibitions, and Sheffield’s Bradbury & Blanchard has done just that with their Winter Group Show. The artist run space celebrates the end of its first year in existence with a salon-style exhibition featuring a selection of artists from across the globe and with work across a wide variety of mediums, and in the spirit of Xmas, everything is course for sale and available for immediate pick up. Great for […]

Showing: Petro ‘Hey You’ @ Bradbury & Blanchard

UK based graffiti artist Petro has been contributing to the depletion of the ozone layer for 25 years or so, and his instantly recognisable style is now on view in Sheffield gallery Bradbury & Blanchard. Hey You showcases Petro’s signature handstyle, lettering and drip-infused symbology and it’s good to see exhibitions like this being brought to the North of England by B&B – the gallery owners and curators are artists themselves, so watch out for more exiting shows in the future. In conjunction with the exhibition, […]

Openings: Kid Acne – ‘Kill Your Darlings’ @ Sheffield Museum’s Millenium Gallery

AM was in Sheffield last weekend for the official opening of Kid Acne’s three month run of the Kill Your Darlings solo exhibition at Sheffield Museum’s Millenium Gallery. The exhibition is his first solo show in his now-base of Sheffield, and as it’s hard to walk around the city without catching a glimpse of his outdoor murals and graffiti, it made a nice change to see some of his work in an indoor setting in South Yorks. The exhibition serves as a retrospective of sorts as he […]
