While in town for his show at StolenSpace, Shepard Fairey (interviewed) painted several murals around London. His third and final piece was entitled Shadowplay (one of the many versions of his Andre the Giant motif) and was painted outside of the Truman Brewery. Playing with halftone and gradient, the wall featured new technical territory for the American artist – looks like it turned out great tho! Shepard Fairey (interviewed) recently unveiled a mural featuring his iconic imagery on the rooftop of Great Bowery, a fashion and art agency collective in Manhattan. Wrapped around a water tower (one of our favorite things to see painted), the piece entitled Power & Equality was meant to celebratet the LES Girls Club and board member Rosario Dawson for everything they do in the neighborhood. The project brings things full circle for Shep as he was one of the young vandals to tag up the landmark graffiti spot back in […]
After an inaugural showing last year in Los Angeles (covered), it was only a matter of time before the BEYOND THE STREETS hit what many consider one of the birth places of graffiti in the US. New York’s version of the exhibition (curated by Roger Gastman) celebrating graffiti, street art, and beyond once again featured a stunning roster of some of the most well known and seminal artists in the genre. Ranging from paintings, sculptures, photography, mural art to site-specific installations from 100+ artists, posting all the photos […]
As a continuation of Shepard Fairey’s (interviewed) 30th anniversary exhibitions opening up around the world, Galerie Itinerrance unveiled a selection of work last week from the infamous American street artist. Facing The Giant – 3 Decades Of Dissent features reoccurring themes in his work that highlight his social activism. Shep further explains – “Facing the Giant: Three Decades of Dissent is a reflection on the last 30 years of my career, highlighting both the continuity and the evolution of my art and concepts. It began with an absurd sticker […]
Last month in Honolulu, Shepard Fairey (interviewed) created a mural for this year’s edition of POW! WOW! Hawaii. Attending the street art festival for the first time, the American artist decided to address global warming and preserving the environment for future generations with his new piece entitled Golden Future? Working through his birthday, the wall was completed with the help of his mural crew and featured his distinctive palette and imagery. Photo credit: @jonathanfurlong. Discuss Shepard Fairey here.
It’s been a long while since our last Streets World Roundup but we felt like sharing so here’s a look at some recent street art. Headlining things is this clever series of handpainted sequential billboard takeovers from Mobstr (interviewed). Not sure where these pieces are located, but presumably in the UK somewhere. Wherever they are, the text-based work is a prime example of his wittiness, talent for placement, and minimalistic aesthetic. Other public art that caught our eyes last month include pieces from JR (Germany), AlfAlfA (Spain), Andrew […]

Co-designed with the artist, this model is part […]
One of the fun parts of the BEYOND THE STREETS exhibition (covered) is walking through the gift shop to see what unique offerings are available.
