We recently attended the opening of Hueless, a group show of black and white works at Malick Williams & Co. Although the exhibition may have lacked color, it certainly did not lack artistry, with an exciting selection of monochromatic pieces by the likes of D Face, Shepard Fairey, Erik Haze, Curtis Kulig, Pete Watts and Skullphone. Tonight, we get a special group show named Hueless from Malick Williams & Co. As the titled suggests, the goal of the show is the pull the traditional color palettes from everyone’s arsenal and challenge them to create works under a monochromatic direction. This past Saturday, AM saw the return of Skullphone to his home of Los Angeles. The show “Digital Media” takes a closer look and questions the viewer about their relationship with technology. Skullphone always has packed opening, but this was one of the few where you had to line up and wait for the “one in one out” if you didn’t get there early. LA based street artist Skullphone is coming back to home to show at Subliminal Projects on June 5th. Known well for jacking and flipping billboards in the streets we look forward to Skullphone doing some street runs in anticipation for this event. Maybe we’ll see something similar to our favorite “Skully” projects in which the street artist hacked into an electronic billboard and reprogrammed it to display his infamous skull and cell phone image. Always one to be on the cutting edge of art, New Image Art Gallery opened their “14 Artists” show last Friday night. The group show was a result of studio visits and correspondence with, you guessed it, 14 different artists. Last night, the Carmichael GalleryÂ in Hollywood pulled no punches with their all-star show, “Get Rich Quick!,” showcasing the strongest talents in the street and urban art genre. Some scorching hot pieces lined the gallery’s walls for the exhibition, including: a rare BanksyÂ canvas, a KAWS ad disruption, boxes and screen-printed collages fromÂ Faile, to originals by Barry McGeeÂ and Micallef and much more.
